Vintage Early Hardy Uniqua 3 5/8" RHW 2 screw Telephone Latch Salmon Fly reel
You are bidding on a very early vintage Hardy Uniqua 3 5/8" RHW Salmon fly reel. With a grooved brass foot~~inscribed on the side of the foot with the British Pat.272409, inscribed on the inside with the maker's initials"W.S. ~ the employee of Hardy who made this reel. Because of the brass foot, we suspect that this reel was made before WW I as all of the brass was appropriated for shell casings until the war's end. The reel retains much of it's gray leaded wonderful patina. The reel has a black ebonite crank handle. With spare pawl and spring inside(see pictures) telephone latch, rim tension adjustment knob, full stamped on the rear with the maker, model, size and details~~ Hardy, 3 5/8" duplicated Mark II, Brit Pat#145904. With the recent economic shutdown my lifestyle changed in such a way that I was forced to STOP shopping. At least shopping, for me and my family to keep. This was unexpectedly forced on me by my contractor husband who after 30 years was no longer able to contract so by edict I was no longer able to shop. As I felt my lifeblood draining out of me I determined WAIT.I can still SHOP, I just can't KEEP. The overall condition appears to be excellent for the vintage(1930-40's? The cork is still supple and the and the reel works extremely well. This would be a great display piece with beautiful patina or put it to good use as it was intended. WOW this is a cool pc I can not find a make on it I wish I could because that would help all of us out for value and needing. The thing still reels ex and winds er in so you could still use it if you like the handle is wood and that's all I know thanks Trowbridge company in Boston. Mass looks exacly like I found one the only difference was mine is original and that one had a screw in the handle. Again have not found the name on it but will search again when I get in. Here are better pics shows no name no numbers. It does not look like there ever were any so I am not sure of maker. All Hendyx I have seen are marked on tie down area. vintage Arthur Allan of Glasgow salmon fly reel 3 7/8" fishing not hardy bros!!!

GLASGOW here we have an extremely rare& difficult to find"Arthur allan" fly reel in good condition considering the age of it with no bends but has a little line burn on the frame(see pics) this is still a fishable reel& has a nice strong check.on the reel the foot is original brass with no filing& measures 3 1/8" with 3 screws.the reel is 3 7/8" in diameter& 1 1/2" width overall.the reel frame is original& has lost most of the leaded finish as is the spool.the frame has the Arthur Allan logo stamped on it.this really needs to be seen to be appreciated.I have removed the little spring from the spool release clip as they were seized up& hard to operate but will send it with the reel to be replaced by the new owner if desired.so all in all it's a top reel ... morethat will outlast most if not all modern reels in this category that will look fantastic displayed in a case or just on the mantel.this would make a superb birthday present for someone or a very nice presentation piece"PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS IS AN OLD REEL SO WILL MOS CERTAINLY SHOW SOME SIGNS OF AGE" I'm starting this at a low price& i think that's a fair starting price for something of this quality any questions please ask& i will try to answer.i have to send this via registered post for obvious reasons. this item will be posted within 48hrs of full payment being received"please check postage costs before bidding" payment must be made within 3 days of auction end, non payers will be reported to eBay. thanks for looking& good luck on the bidding. These are filled with various fly lines which I will note but admit I know nothing of how to identify line to be authenic. The reel works excellent and all spools are in good shape. The spools seem to be of different years because of the different markings on them. Everything here is in good shape and ready to use or display it that is the intention. VINTAGE VALENTINE ANTIREVERSE BIG GAME FLY REEL - MINT
This reel is BOTH ANTIREVERSE AND A MULTIPLIER. It's one of the pioneering big-game fly reels. Made in the the 70s- the infancy of saltwater fly fishing. For the collector BUT you could confidently stop a big striper or a tarpon or a dolphin with it today. It compares favorably with any modern big game reel by Orvis. Hardy, Abel, Seamaster and others. A few words about the two really nice features of this reel. ANTIREVERSE which means that THE HANDLE DOES NOT TURN when a fish is taking line. Anybody who has ever been lucky enough to catch a fish that takes any amount of line has confronted the problem of a spinning reel handle. When do you grab it? Do you palm the spool? Do you try to adjust the drag? Did you get a nasty rap on a finger? Does your current saltwater reel do this? Probably not. Very few other reels are antireverse- the ... moreFin-Nors are an exception. Second. It's a multiplier- you get 1 1/2 turns of the spool for every revolution of the handle. This makes a big difference when you are dealing with a sinking line or if you have a lot of line underfoot in the bow of a boat. And if a fish decides to come at you you need the extra retrieving speed. The Fin-Nor#3 is about the same size as this Valentine 400 but it's heavier and has less line/backing capacity. The Fin-nor IS antireverse but it's not a multiplier. You may be wondering why more big-game reels aren't equipped with BOTH of these features. With the reel you get an extra spool AND an Orvis#9 Full Sinking Line and backing plus the original box that housed the extra spool. Inside the leather case will come the reel loaded with 20 lb. Dacron backing and an Orvis WF10F floating line. The drag is such that you could confidently take on a big dolphin or a tarpon. Stripers. Bluefish, and salmon would not be a problem. You would be outgunning virtually any bonefish or any salmon. There is never any worry about grabbing a spinning handle, it just doesn't spin no matter how fast it gives line.
