Fresh from a Vermont estate. A large lot of VINTAGE fly tying material believed to date from the 1950's and 1960's. Includes MANY feathers of many varieties including 3 complete wings. Fur, chenille and metallic threads and a very primitive and grouchy tying vise. There are packaged materials from several sources. Mostly unopened, and mostly priced at 10 to 20 cents. Most of the feathers are stored in condiment jars from the Fifties and Sixties. Some long tail feathers are loose. There are also 12+ packets of what appear to be very fine lengths of brass chain from the Marine Model Co- not sure what the intended use was. I bought this Ari T Hart FTK(Fly Tying Kit) new in 1985(I found the sales receipt! and it has been my traveling companion on many trout and Atlantic salmon trips over the past 29 years. But still looks like new. This vise, and all the materials I needed, would fit nicely into a small cigar box. The kit alone will fit in your shirt pocket! Kit measures 4-1/4" x 3-1/2" x 5/8" I doubt there were many of these made, and this one is number 19. All the original ebony handled tools(scissors, hackle pliers, bobbin) forceps, wrench& 3 spools are included. Comes in its original buttery smooth black leather case. Parallel adjusting jaws hold hooks from midge size to Atlantic salmon size securely. Precision engineering and craftsmanship ... moreat its best! Tips of jaws show some wear from hooks that doesn't photograph well. There is a small darkened area of one corner of the lid that is not damage or wear, and was there when I bought it. I tried to find some information about these kits on the web, but they are rare as can be, and only one other example showed up and is not serial numbered like mine, and doesn't have all the tools.
