Mepps Very old and Rare spinner BTE SGDG I have been fishing with Mepps for 45 years and have never seen a Mepps like this one. Does not appear to have been used. All I know about this lure is Mepps was invented around 1938 by a French engineer by the name of Andre Meulnart. In 1951. Todd Sheldon who owned a tackle shop in Wisconsin tried a Mepps lure that was given to him by a Mark Velek who had severed in WW 11 and had returned from Europe 2 years earlier. Mr. Sheldon caught 4 trout within 2 hours weighing 12 pounds. He was hooked on the lures from then on. Mr. Sheldon started selling the spinners in his tackle shop. Mr. Velek who knew a woman in France.And started trading nylon stockings for lures. However. The demand for the lures was greater than of demand than the stockings. Mr. Sheldon started buying the lures directly from Mr. Meulnart. ... moreThe rest is history. I have found thatbte and sgdg are French terms meaning: Bte means Patented and the sgdg means without government guarantee. The lure is in a small plastic box that says made in Germany. Heddon River Runt Spook sinker is very vintage and except for a few very minor blemishes and hooks that are a little tarnished is in excellent condition. The Mepps and rattler are like new. Never sued and the two spoons although show age still catch panfish fish& trout. The box looks like all walnut and is lined with a white plastic for easy cleaning.

VINTAGE MEPPS AGLIA 5 IN LINE SPINNER LURE 5/8 OUNCE BROWN HOOK DRESSING
This vintage Mepps Aglia in line spinner has a solid brass blade and brass weighted body. It is the earliest of Mepps spinner. In that on the front of the blade it says"Mepps 5 Aglia" with"British French Patent U.S. Pend" and"Made in France" on the back. It is dressed with light brown(squirrel? hair, with a touch of yellow. It weighs 5/8 ounce and is 5 inches long from tip to tail hairs. Pick up this piece of legitimate, rugged looking lure that surely graced someones tackle box from many decades ago.

The other is the No. 2 Aglia which has markings of"MEPPS 2 AGLIA" British, French, Patent, U.S. PEND" and"Made in France" on the reverse side. There is some rust on the Aglia's hook and some minor tarnishing on both spinner tabs. Theres a gold color one guess you may call it a spoon it is a Weller on its underside bottom it has like painted red wings on it, it is on a wire line with red beads on it with a big hook attached to it with a cork on its hook, someone taped this one to keep it from unwinding and tangle free. Then there is a#6 Gold Martin with what looks like a lion on it and the#s 1005460 Italy on it. Then I have a Mepps#3 Aglia made in France and a ABU HI-FI 1/2 OZ Made in Sweden and then I have 2 orange fluorescent ones in their packs that have no name on them. They are heavy for their size, then lastly there is one florescent yellow one that says 5/8 Sure Ratl-lure by Veselka Tackle company in Oh still in it package. Four seriously Old School lures that make the fish tremble. These iconic lures all together can only be known as one thing"A Killer Kit" First a Martin 15. Made of brass 2.5" long with orange and black buck, next a Martin 6 also brass and made in Italy 2" with red accents on the spinner and yellow, orange and red on the treble.
