A bit of tarnish on the blades(see pictures) The blades are signed"Kauhava" ... morewhich refers to a town in Finland where the knives were made. Knife making in Kauhava. A town of around 17,000 people, is known worldwide for these amazing belt knives. Each of the knives has a depiction of a horse crest with the word"SUOMI" scribed across the top section of the handle. Suomi means Finland) The knives sit in the sheath on top of each other- the larger knife closer to the body of the wearer. The sheath is a fine tooled, stitched, leather with a decorative brass stop at the bottom to prevent the knives from wearing through the sheath. The larger knife is about 7 1/2 inches total length and the smaller knife measures about 4 1/2 inches. There is some fine scrolling work done on the blades and the handles that may not show up to well in my pictures. Instead of a belt loop made of leather, the sheath has a latched metal loop on the end of a 1 inch chain that holds it to the belt or belt loop. The handles appear to be made of a combination of steel, brass and an enameled metal as well. Beautiful. We are offering this set at a very low starting bid to allow for anyone interested and appreciative of these beautiful knives to participate in the bidding process. We will NOT pull this item off of the eBay auction format and sell it at a fixed price. This knife set will sell for whatever the final bid is. J. MARTTIINI Finland RAPALA Filet Boning Knife Leather Sheathe Vintage Geometric
This is what I believe to be a fish boning knife from Rapala of Finland. It has writing etched into the blade. But it must be in Finnish because I can't make it out. One word looks like"Finnish. Knife and sheathe could use a bit of cleaning. Knife has a 4" wooden handle and the curved blade is 6" long. The knife is fitted into a tooled leather pouch or sheathe with a strap to thread your belt through. Leather has geometric designs and the name MARTTIINI with MADE IN FINLAND beneath it.
