Incense cedar trees(Calocedrus decurrens) Also known as the California incense cedars, produce fragrant fan-like needles on evergreen branches. This western North American native coniferous tree grows best in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 5 through 8, where they can live over 150 years. This natural conical-shaped tree works as a large shade tree or grouped together as a windbreak. With large trees like the incense cedar, it is important to space the trees properly so the roots and branches are not crowded. Growth Incense cedar trees grow slowly while they are young, but growth speeds up when the roots establish in the planting location. Untrimmed, the incense cedar trees ... moreonly reach 15 to 20 feet tall and 8 to 10 feet wide in ten years. Eventually the trees reach 40 to 70 feet tall with age, growing 12 to 24 inches each year. With selective pruning, these trees can be kept smaller. To grow the cedars to their full size, space the trees according to their mature height. These two seedlings were transplanted from a garden area in my back yard- the larger one has a couple if brown spots but is healthy overall. The smaller one looks perfect. They have been steadily growing since last spring and are ready for a new home. Trees can get quite large- the bark is slightly reddish and very pretty. The trees are hardy and very pleasant at every stage if their lives. If you need more info- please contact me. More seedlings will be available soon!
