Very nice minty new Pflueger# 9546 Eel Finish. 5 inch lure. The hooks, with that rust residue is the only thing that makes this bad boy NOT Mint, along with the paint crackling around the weight hole. I assume there's a weight in there and I also assume that this occurs in lures that have been stored for so long. As far as the family knows Dad NEVER had this lure in water and the rusting on the hooks is presumed there because of where this plug was stored, in the basement laundry room high on a shelf in a larger box. If the weight plug area doesn't do this normally in most weighted lures than that would blow my theory and maybe this guy did hit water. I honestly don't think so. We think Raymond's Sporting goods was a store in the Boston area where Dad may have actually gotten the piece. We don't know why cuz he only fished ... moreas a child and this would have been much later in life. 1950's? The paint job is absolutely immaculate and I've tried to go over this very closely and I can only see tiny. Minute factory imperfections, NOTHING MAJOR. Rare Find Alou Eel I Vintage Fishing Lure 12" in Length With 2 Large Hooks Lure is used and shows wear. Please view pictures carefully and make your decision. Al Reinfelder had a long time fishing partner named Lou Palmer. They were great bucktail jig and rigged eel fishermen. Around the time that soft plastics began getting nationwide attention as fishing lures in the early seventies. Al and Lou got the idea to create some soft plastic eel bodies to use in lieu of real eels. They experimented and had some of their original mentors and cronies help them test various prototypes on the bass. Realizing they had a marketable product, AL& LOU formed the ALOU Bait Company, operating out of their basements. Thus was the Alou eel born. The Bait Tail was born as a kind of"problem looking for a solution. Problem was they had a whole barrel ... moreof unusable soft plastic eel tails that were not riggable for whatever reasons. Rather than throw them away. They molded a fishhead-shaped leadhead. Then they cut the eel tails short, thereby making them into"bait tails. The soft plastic bait tails perfectly matched the size and shape of the fishhead jig, thereby making a seamless silhouette of a baitfish. Al& Lou were masters at fishing lighted bridges and docks at night. To them, the seamless silhouette of the Bait Tail was an important strike trigger for bridge fishing under lights. Rather than throw them away. They molded a fishhead-shaped leadhead. Then they cut the eel tails short, thereby making them into"bait tails. The soft plastic bait tails perfectly matched the size and shape of the fishhead jig, thereby making a seamless silhouette of a baitfish. Al& Lou were masters at fishing lighted bridges and docks at night. To them, the seamless silhouette of the Bait Tail was an important strike trigger for bridge fishing under lights. Snarkie type lure Coachdog Finish Herters Eel
Nice little lure that appears to be a Creek Chub Snarkie. In a Coachdog finish but is not marked Creek Chub anywhere on the lure and the molding of the body is slightly different at the joints, slightly curved where the tradional Creek Chub lures I have seen are straight. Also the eyes are not raised as much. I believe this is a"copycat" of the Snarkie and made by Herters. A really good looking little bait and a nice addition to any collection.
