This auction is for one vintage Thayer Coggin lounge chair and ottoman designed by Milo Baughman. The chair and rolling ottoman are solid and comfortable. Cosmetically. The chair and ottoman are both covered in their original beige/tan fabric with very little wear. There is one spot of what appears to be nail polish on the seat cushion of the chair(see picture) It was hard to photograph, it is barely seen unless you are looking for it. The ottoman has a tiny white spot near the top edge and a grey mark on one corner. The chrome shines like new with only minimal scratches and wear(see pictures) The black meshing on the underside of the chair has tears in a few spots. The dimensions of the chair are 29.5" wide, 29.5" deep, and 25" tall. Original vinyl was an ugly green so I have been planning to redo this for a while and finally got it done. It took a while to find a cow hide this big. This couch had the middle projected seating area reupholstered in the hide. With black Naugahyde else ware. I had the two arm rests upholstered with a strip of the hide to break up the black Naugahyde surrounding the hide. I think my upholsterer did an incredible job, as he always does. From Clark, Coggin& Johson Co. in Boston Mass. the bin is approximatety 19.5"t x 11"w x 13"d, and has a paper label on 2 sides, with a smaller label that goes over an arae to state the type of coffee in the bin, this one contained"KLIMAX BLEND" which is vaguely legible(as you can see from the pictures) It will be shipped in the original shipping crate, which it appears it was unfortunately stored in for many decades, as can be seen from where the elements could not get to the labels(very bright area's and dark area's) which I'm using for its stand. Something caustic must have been spilled at the lower part of the backside as you can see the damage in the pictures. On top you can see the remnants ... moreof what I believe is a warning label, This? is protected by law" can be made out towards the bottom. All-in-all it would make a very nice addition to someone's collection and does have functional uses. Structually it is quite sound and functioning( although I'd clean it before I'd ever put anything in it) I don't believe it would hold water(it was never intended to do so) but I don't see any holes in it, but there is rusted/corroded are at the bottom of the backside. If it does not sell I'm going to use it in my office for a very decorative way to store files or other items. Quality welded chromed steel construction. Very interesting sculptural design that looks like some of the shelves designed by Edward Wormley for Dunbar. One glass panel at bottom is missing- the bottom section that rests on the floor should also have a piece of glass. These tables are extraordinarily rare and beautiful examples of mid century modern design(see prices of other examples of the same table below) Simple, no frills function of a Parsons table meets the epitome of luxurious materials. The table includes two leaves. Shown in photos with one. All panels of the burl(table and leaves) seem to be from the same source and were carefully matched by the furniture maker for a flawless overall pattern and color even when fully expanded. Dimensions: without leaves table top is 39 inches square. 28 inches high; fully expanded it is 83 x 39 inches. Each leaf measures 22 inches wide. This lounge chair"floats" on a circular base with built-in rocking and swivel mechanisms. The upholstery is an interesting shell like pattern in a crushed velour like fabric. The chair has a few stains in the upholstery as you can hopefully see in the photos. May come clean with a good upholstery cleaner or could be redone if you really wanted to. The base is made of a hard plastic material that is covered in a brass tone type foil. This one retains the original brown nubby wool fabric. The fabric is in good original condition with only minor visible wear and pilling. The wood frame has typical marks and scuffs. Please note the two deep wear marks on the rear lateral structural element. These are typical of this model and come from years of reclining. The reclining mechanism works well. But could use some adjustment. There are a few replaced screws, but everything is present and functional, though the foot piece doesnt want to stay up within the chair seat when it isnt reclined. Showing on rips, stains, or other blemishes. Please note that the actual piece is a brilliant white gloss paper. Very difficult to photograph. The images added to this listing are such that I was able to show the depth of the embossment but not capture the true color of the piece. The piece was made as a design piece for the New Concept furniture line designed by Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin. And is marked appropriately on the reverse. This is an amazing. Original 8 1/2' Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin sofa with its original upholstering. There are no holes or tears in any of the material. All of the cushions are in perfect shape except for the back of one cushion that has miniscule scratches as seen in pic#11. The backrest has what seems to be a very light paint over spray. Usually that will come off easily with water and a soft rag, but because this is all original I thought I would leave that to the next owner. It has it's original tag from Thayer Coggin and what seems to be strips of cardboard from when it was originally shipped, pic#9. This is a very comfortable sofa and would fit well in any mid century or modern home.
