This is an assortment of squid bodies. Skirts, flashers, jigs I used for bottomfishing. Some of it new and in the package while others were used but in good condition. This beautiful argillite mini collection of a Raven pipe. Halibut pendant, and Eagle and Salmon pole was carved and signed by First Nation Haida artist Glen Pollard. The pipe is five and three eighths inches long. There are two inlays of beautiful Abalone shell in the pipe. The Halibut pendant has two inlays of Abalone shell. The Raven and Salmon sculpture stands three and five eighths inches tall and sports three Abalone shell inlays.

Vintage Southeastern Alaska Tlingit-Haida Carved Halibut Hook
History of the Halibut-Hook: This hook was made from hand spun Alaskan mountain-goat. The piece was carved from wood indigenous to Southeastern Alaska, more than likely Hoonah or Juneau. The words"Yan Das Eesh" are carved into the underside of the hook. This could be a Tlingit spirit word. I would say that this piece probably dates from around the 1940's or so. The total length is a little over 11 inches and a little over 3 inches in width. Please check out my other great auctions. One of the most interesting and beautiful of all fishhooks was and still is the Northern Two-piece"V" Shaped Halibut Hook. Now days, the Halibut"V" Hook is sold at tourist attractions where cruse liners pull into Alaskan seaports. The Halibut"V" Hook is also sold by the Northwest Native People as a wonderful piece of ... moreart with ivory and abalone inlay, hand-rubbed crafted wood, and special braided line. This"V" hook is hand made from cedar and alder wood, the barb is a piece of elk antler, the lashing is artificial sinew, and the line is braided cedar-bark. Other cordage used might be nettle-fiber, seaweed, or cedar-root and spruce-root. The Halibut"V" Hook was also referred to as the"clumsy hook. Two sections were lashed together in a"V" shape. The top of the"V" was often carved with a significant design. The fisherman believed he needed a sprit helper, or power to successfully catch a powerful fish as the halibut. The carvings most commonly used were, Otters, seals, halibut, wolves and an assortment of sea monsters.² The lower part of the"V" hook was plain with a barb made from bone lashed to it. A piece of octopus or devilfish was then lashed to the barb as bate. The halibut is a bottom feeder fish and flat similar to a flounder found in Puget Sound. The"V" shape of the hook was placed close to the ocean's bottom. This allowed the fish to move its flat head between the"V" to eat bate wrapped around the barb.

A Very Old Tlingit Cod or Halibut Fishing Hook ~ Possibly 19th Century This is a nice example of a native fishing hook made by the people of the Tlingit Tribe or perhaps another Northwest Coast tribe. And dates to around the turn of the last century. It is made of wood and I believe has an old nail for the barb. This is a rare and interesting ethnographic piece for a serious collector of such rare historic items. This piece was shown at the Snow Goose Gallery in Seattle, WA and it comes in it's own Riker Mount case. “HALIBUT,” A NATIVE ALASKAN DOLL
HALIBUT. A NATIVE ALASKAN DOLL Up for auction is a delightful lady named“Halibut. She was made by a Native Alaskan in Palmer. Alaska in 1998(handwritten by the artist in pen on the bottom of the base) The base is a small circle cut from a branch of wood and decorated with tiny clay leaves. The doll itself is made from stuffed cloth and is held upright by a stick instated into the base and running partially up the back. Her coat is made of a tightly woven black cotton material with a print of red fruit and green leaves. Her leggings are brown cotton. The bottom. Cuffs and all around the hood surrounding her face is a soft wolf fur. Halibut is 6& 3/4 inches tall. Approximately 4– 4& 1/2 inches wide and 3 inches deep. The base is 2 and 1/2 inches in diameter. This is truly talented carving! Highest Quality- unbelievable clean and deep cuts. Jackson's signature- another incredible piece! Mr. Jackson Robertson is a Master Carver from the Westcoast of Canada. British Columbia. He has been carving yellow and red cedar for over 40 years. This is one of his latest pieces- really spectacular and very detailed. It's signed on the back by the artist. His Tribal affiliation is the Tsawataineuk First Nation from Kingcome Inlet BC but he has lived most of his life in Nanaimo. Jackson's carvings have been sold and presented worldwide. He was just recently seen on the canadian TV Show"Canadian Pickers" He is featured on the BC Artisan Cataloque and he is nominated for the BC Artisan Award. FINE EARLY NORTHWEST COAST TLINGIT INDIAN HALIBUT HOOK 19th Century
A great early Northwest Coast Tlingit Indian figural halibut fishing hook dating from the mid 1800's. Traditional carved in an avian form with two pieces of lashed and carved wood. Hand forged iron barb, wrapped in cordage the hook is both beautiful and functional. This hook caught lots of fish as evidenced by the numerous teeth marks on the shaft. The hook measures 11" long x 4 1/2" High by 2 1/4" wide and is in excellent condition for its age, with a great aged patina from use and handling. This fine piece of functional ethnographic sculpture will make a great display item and a fine addition to anyone's collection.
