And mandarin duck are oftentimes used interchangeably in fly tying texts. Most often in the context of the buff colored barred flank feathers. Summer duck is a nickname that has been used for both the mandarin duck and the woodduck, there are in fact two distinct birds behind all these feathers. The woodduck, Aix sponsa. Is native to North America while the mandarin duck, Aix galericulata. Is native to Asia. The two are closely related biologically, the hens being almost indistinguishable in appearance, but the drakes are quite distinct on the water. However, it is the flank feathers of the drakes that are of great interest to fly tyers. They are so nearly identical that one can easily be used as a substitute for the other in all but the most strict tying recipes. Dry Fly Wings As we mentioned above. Dry fly winging is the most common use of woodduck flank feathers. While most tyers use a single feather for winging their dry flies, some use a pair of feathers, especially on larger flies like a size 12 Quill Gordon. For dry flies that utilize a pair of feathers, elongated feathers are more suitable. For flies that will use one feather to form the split wings, the"triangle" shaped feathers are perfect, especially the ones with a very flat top edge with few broken barbules. Wet Fly Wings In the early days of Catskill fly fishing. It seemed that each classic dry fly had a matching wet fly. While mainly out of fashion these days, a few of these old patterns remain quite effective in our trout streams. Very Large Thornton Pickard Ruby Wet- Dry 8" X 10" Plate Camera I have for offer an English Thornton Pickard a very rare Ruby Mahogany& Brass plate camera. It comes with one double plate carrier that shows evidence that this camera was used for wet plates. It is missing a small piece of wood in one of the corners and has a split on one side. I believe the camera has had some modifications as it has a pneumatic shutter fitted behind the lens which I don't think is original. The lens is unnamed and is solid brass with nice optics. It measures approximately 6cm in length. The fittings could do with a good polish to get them back to their very best. It is missing some screws and the brass turn table underneath. The glass focusing screen has a repaired crack. The glass measures 10" X 8" The bellows are double extension ... morebut do have a repair at the back near were they meet the main frame off the camera body. This is a cosmetic repair and the bellows are not light tight. Please look at all the photos carefully. As they give a better description than I can! I am selling this for display only. At an auction I recently bought a number of large boxes full of old Soda Bottles. Many of which are still full of Soda. If you'd like to see the collection please look in our store: Click here- This is an old 10 Fl. Oz. bottle Canada Dry It is clear molded glass and measures approx. 9 1/2" tall On the neck there are ACL's(Applied Color Label) One is a red, white and green Canada Dry logo. The other is a much smaller red and white logo with'Contents 10 Fl. Oz. underneath it On the bottom. Molded into the glass, it reads: Canada Dry; Contents 10 Fl. Ozs. 18109C 7A2 63" This may not be entirely accurate, the print on the bottom of the bottle is not easy for me to make out. There is a largish chip out of the base of this bottle. It does not go through(the bottle would still hold liquid) and it does not effect the bottles ... moreability to stand, but it is clearly there(It could easily be a production error rather than post-production damage, but I just do not know) The ACL on the neck shows some very light scuffing and there is a tiny bit of rubbing damage to the glass where the neck meets the body and at the base. Vintage ANSUL Dry Chemical Fire Extinguisher For your consideration is this is a vintage CO2 Chemical Fire Extinguisher. It is a 10.5 LB Lever Type Class B C extinguisher. I don’t know when it was serviced last. The extinguisher tips the scale at 10.5 lbs and is about 18 inches tall x 3.5 inches diameter. Pretty cool nozzle and hose attachment with a very interesting pull knob on the top. The lettering on the Silver portion of the extinguisher is somewhat legible. Including lid, 9 3/4" tall without lid) It is 5 1/2" in diameter. It has 10 faceted sides. The lid has one small maker's irregularity on outer rim, see image 6. This looks like a chip, but the glass is intact, it is just missing some green color. Rim of jar has a few tiny flea bites where lid contacts the glass, these are hard to see. Otherwise, the jar is in very good condition. Jar weighs 5 lbs. 1.8 oz.

Jar has 2 tiny flea bites on inside rim, hard to notice) Jar weighs 5 lbs. Sides of jar have a faint impression of water stains, or similar marks; perhaps a mineral or calcium deposit that has lightly marked the glass. I tried to clean it off without success. It is not very obvious unless one holds the jar up to the light.
