It is an early Hardy of Alnwick wallet and is in very good used condition with little wear and usage(see clear picture to decide before bidding) It is approx 5 inches square and is stamped with the Hardys Alnwick England on the in side. We found this fishing fly on a recent trip to our camp in the Western Mountains of Maine- prime fishing grounds; The Rapid River. Rangeley Lake, The Richardson Lakes, Magallaway, The Androscoggin River and more. It is a vintage Colonel Bates salmon streamer fly, but we are unsure just how old, and still in its original packaging and sealed. Item Photos, Item Photos, Hello and welcome to the auction.This is for a vintage Chas Farlow of 191 Strand.London leather fly wallet which measures approximately 14.8cm. by 9.5cm. by 4.5cm.C.Farlow started busines in 1840 and this Farlow address would imply a date of between 1852 and 1885.The latter date being around the time when the company mark was changed.The wallet belonged to Captain H.S.Logan*please see below) of The Leicestershire Regiment and bears his initials of H.S.L. to the leather.Beneath his initials is another mark which looks like a joined M& B.The wallet contains an original hook scale,with the maker's name of Chas Farlow and address,for Superfine Limerick Hooks of up to 7/0 in size.To the inside the wallet has tabs to hold 60 salmon or larger flies and pockets and pads for trout flies as well as storage areas to ... morethe front and back.The wallet looks to be complete and holds about 18 good trout flies to gut not counting any flies that have been mothed.To one pocket there is some old coiled gut.These coils are shown in the photographs.One of these coils retains a paper labels which is marked'Competition' to one side and'Fine to 4X' to the other.One of the other coils has a label that reads:Fine Fine to 4X.To another pocket there are also small amounts of what looks like wool and a length of twine or similar. This would appear to be the same Captain H.S.Logan of The Leicestershire Regiment who was killed in action on 1st May 1908 of wounds received whilst commanding a detachment of Soudanese Troops near Mesellamin.Soudan.There is a monument in St.Martin's Cathedral which was erected by his brother officers in his memory. You can read more of Captain Logan by searching his name and Leicestershire Regiment including details of a presentation chair dated 1890 which was sold at auction by Guildings in September 2012.
