It has great paint and would have been Mint if it didn't get a small dent over the right eye. I would say the lure is in EX- condition. The white line down the side of the lure is a flash reflection. 1937 PENN SEA FORD MODEL 72--150 YARD CAPACITY SALTWATER FISHING REEL--CLEAN
Offered in this listing is a hard to find 1937 vintage Penn Sea Ford. Model 72. I say 1937 because the handle screw is the a scalloped type without the use of a locking screw, which Penn did mostly in 1937. This reel is part of the smaller series of Penn reels that were offered only before WW II. All of the models Penn offered in the pre-war years were offered in smaller size diameter side plates. Standard Penn side plates were 3 1/4 inches in diameter, these small models dropped the side plate diameter down to 3 1/8 inches. That small change of 1/8 down sizing changed all the parts of the reel. These small sizes altered not only the size of the side plates, but all other metal parts of the reel were also affected by shrinking down the size of each model. The reason that Penn did not continue this practice after the war was because these ... moresize reels were not too popular and did not sell well. Back in the days of thick linen lines, in order to have a good amount of line on your reel, you needed a large spool to hold that bulky line. Consequently, these reels were discontinued, making them much more difficult to find in today's market. There simply were not many of them made. The reel in this auction has been completely taken down. All parts have been checked, cleaned, lubed, assembled and adjusted. This has all its original parts and runs very smooth and fast. The free spool function operates exactly as it should and the clicker is loud. There is some chrome loss and obvious aging. The side plates are not cracked or chipped. There are interesting facts to mention about the Sea Ford model. All of the other Penn small reels will say Patented in the logo. Throughout its entire production run. The Sea Ford, no matter what size it was, will always say patent pending because of a Patent Infringement case that was brought against Penn in the early 1930's. So the Sea Ford model is different. Also, when noticing many of the smaller Penn pre-war models, the tail plates have a molded picture of palm trees on the tail

This 3 3/8" diameter reel has a 7/8" wide spool. A good strong click, drag button. It has a chrome line guide that can be moved for either right or left hand wind. The reel has a few very light scratches on the front plate and only minimal wear on the back. It shows very little use and would be a great usable reel.
