1929 PLUEGER PAR--MODEL 3858--250 YARD CONVENTIONAL FISHING REEL--CLEAN
Offered in this listing is a very hard to find. Antique Pflueger Par, Model 3858, 250 yard reel. The Pflueger Par is a hard rubber and German silver reel from the classic year of 1929, the year the world fell apart) The year of 1929 is the only year of manufacture for the Pflueger Par model, making it a difficult model to locate. This reel is classic early saltwater Pflueger engineering. It is an overbuilt, very tough reel that had all the refinements available at the time it was made. There is a lever controlled, external anti reverse feature, a separate lever controlled free spool feature. A clicker control on the tail plate, an original unmarked Pflueger leather thumb stall and best of all, the Pflueger/ Williams external star wheel counter weight handle drag control. In its day there was not much more to add. All the bells and whistles ... moreare built into this reel by Pflueger in 1929. This was top grade engineering for a small 250 yard fishing reel with 3 1/4 inch side plates. The reel offered in this auction is nice but not perfect. It has been cleaned and lubed. All functions operate smoothly most of the time. This reel took a bang sometime way back in its life time. That bang cracked the tail plate. Luckily, the Pflueger tail plate is structurally sound because the hard rubber is captured by the German silver trim of the plate, so this crack is basically a cosmetic rather than structural problem. Later model Pflueger Templar tailplates will fit this reel and look pretty good but later plates are marked with patent dates which would make this reel historically incorrect. All parts on this old Par model are original. The reel runs smooth but a slight rub in the running feel of the reel can be detected from time to time. The external anti-reverse plunger operates as it should as does the Williams drag. I have taken this reel apart to clean, lube and get every thing running the best I can. This has been hand cleaned. No power tools were used in the restoration of this reel. The results are pretty good. A Pflue
