South Bend wood Surf - Oreno lure #963 F plus Fred Arbogast and Creek Chub
The main piece being bid on in this auction is the SouthBend lure. The wood body is in good condition with one scratch shown in the pictures. The glass eyes are intact. The hooks and spinners are rusted. The box is used but in good condition. The top and bottom are not crumpled or broken. The top has some dings but in pretty good shape for a used item. I am including a Fred Arbogast and Creek Chub lure as a bonus. These lures are both in good condition but do not have a box. Please check back in the next few days since I will be listing more items. I have used Luckey's book and am still confused. I believe it is an old bass-oreno. It has nice glass eyes. Intact old trebles, some cracking, and a few small paint chips(especially around the head) The paint pattern is not listed that I have found. If anyone out there knows more or different info. These were used to attract large saltwater gamefish such as Sailfish and Marlin. This lure measures 8 1/4" Has a diameter of just over 1" And weighs just under 3 oz. This lure is in fair to good condition depending on how you look at it. As the pics show there are some paint nicks on the left facing side, the tail, and a little bit on the underside. The eyes appear to be cracked.This is still a very neat collectible South Bend item and would show very nicely from the right facing side. Vintage 1930's Southbend Wee-Nippee fishing lure in mint condition In original clear plastic box with original literature. The lure measures 3 1/2 inches in length. And the box measures 4 inches long. This lure has no patina on metal parts. The box has yellowed from age but has no cracks and is still pliable. We have not removed the lure from the box to keep all original. Lure is marked Southbend Wee-Nippee on back/top of the lure. This beauty would be a great addition to any collection. Vintage Fly Rod Lure Wood Mouse
You are bidding on a vintage/antique grained wood fly rod lure. In the shape of a MOUSE, measuring about 1" in length, carved out of a floating grained piece of wood with ears, a tail, eyes and a very small treble hook in absolute lifelike proportions. The tail, made out of some hide material is about 1 3/8" long and is in black. The black eyes are recessed. I have fished a"kissing cousin" of this marvelously carved fly rod lure of a mouse in a down stream dead drift. I have actually seen a salmon come up to it from down stream and just lie there kind of lookin' at it. As I twitched the fly rod lure. The salmon surged forward and hit this mouse with reckless abandon! This fly rod mouse lure is about as lifelike as can be. Payment may be made by any reasonable means. According to Terry Wong's wonderful and very informative book on South Bend Lures this color wooden. No eyes, 3 3/4" lure would have only been available from 1919- 1922 making it very difficult to find. The color was listed as blue head white body and although it doesn't look like it was fished it does have some issues due to poor handling. If it didn't have these problems. oh heck, if my aunt had. she would have been my uncle, anyhow, getting back to condition now, it displays well on one side, the other side and head have a few paint chips down to the wood as well as a couple down to the primer. That being said it's still a tuff piece to find in any condition, when is the last time that you saw one for sale? Vintage South Bend Bass Oreno Fishing Lure Underwater Minnow Item is a vintage collectible South Bend Bass Oreno fishing lure. This lure is the underwater minnow. I believe it to be part of the 900 Series. Lure is about 5 1/4 inches long total. Body is off white with red head. Nose is pointed. Glass Eyes have a shiny gold look to them. Then the white iris, then black pupil. There are 5 treble hooks, all in good condition, no rust. There are two propellers, in good condition. Both are engraved: South Bend. The white body has a some crack markings and some white spots on the top of the body. It's Midg-Oreno time! I will be listing approximately 70 South Bend Midg-Orenos over the next few days. This is a very nice Midg-Oreno in P(pike scale) finish which is in EXCELLENT PLUS condition! This finish was ONLY produced in 1927. 1929-1930. Flaws include: three very small dings on the left side, tight age lines and two tiny pointers to the edge of the lip. Still has that wet, shiny look. It is a reproduction. Printed on semi gloss 80# note card stock- so no wrinkling. I apologize for the crummy pics. It is superior in appearance to the original because color(s) may have been enhanced as well as paper'browning' and blemishes being removed. If you don't agree- just send it back for a full refund.
