Fishing: What Tackle and When. From South Bend Bait Company, 1949. The catalog is generally in good condition, with very nice color, and no ripples. There is a 5/8" tear in the top of the front cover. On the opening edge of the front cover(in front of the fish's mouth) there is a 7/8" square area where the color surface has been torn from the front cover, leaving a white spot. There are a few small smudges on the back cover. The inside pages are in very good condition, with great illustrations. The catalog measures 5.25 x 6.25 inches, and has 72 pages. This great piece of advertising is a reproduction of the vintage signs used in tackle stores to promote their equipment from the 1930’s-50’s. A member of the“NATIONAL FISHING LURES COLLECTORS CLUB” reproduced these displays prior to 2001 to preserve the history of the advertising and sold them at the featured events for the NFLCC and were sold for $50.00-$75.00. To ensure the reproductions weren’t mistaken for the originals(THAT’S HOW GOOD THEY ARE) The maker signed, numbered and dated the editions. This edition is# 439 of only 500 made and given the age. Probably not many around, especially available. It is in extremely good condition with only a small corner bend, very minor wear ... moreat fold lines, and minor paper edge separation. Description Vintage South Bend Bait Company"Fishing-What Tackle And When" catalog. Very good condition for age. Measures 6 1/4" x 5 1/8" with 136 pages, lots of color and b&w illustrations. This is the 1942 edition but I believe it was released in 1943. It has the note attached to page 3 explaining how they are completely out of stock due to the factories being converted to support the war effort. therefore, no 1943 edition of the catalog would be issued. This item comes from our friend Mike and his lifetime collection. This is a NEW YORK COLLECTION! MARKINGS: The catalog is marked: © 1939 South Bend Bait Co. Printed in the U.S.A. CATALOG CONDITION: Measures aprox. 10" tall by 8-1/2" wide with 100 pages. This one is in very nice condition ... morewith 100 pages packed full of old South Bend items. The front and back covers have general aging with the front cover having 2 small ¾" tears along the bottom edge. Light aging and soiling is noted on both covers. The back cover is seen with the famous color chart diagram. Inside pages are clean and with-out serious damage. There are NO seriously torn pages. The center 4 pages are loose and detached from the two staples holding this together. The center page simply pulled through the staples. Pages 49-52 are loose. Detached and folded. Inside pages are a soft cream color and generally clean. No bent corners or turned corners. Old catalogs like this are the best tools to learn what companies offered. Catalog measures 8 1/2" x 9 3/4" and contains 87 pages with illustrations and pictures. This catalog also has a small insert inside the front cover titled"Best-O- Luck Fish Lures" There is a tear on the first page and the center 2 pages, which are a colored illustration are loose.
