Up for auction is another original" faux antique sign" by sign painter-folk artist Mark Z. or.Zeke. This hand carved wooden fish was another"flea market" pick and measures 8 1/2 by 32 inches. And has a rear sawtooth hangar for easy hanging. The folk art style fish carving was a"flea market" pick and i had to make a tackle shop sign out of it. The carvers name is on the rear of this 2 inch thick board. It has a unique glass eye and i'm guessing it was to resemble a salt water species like a"horse-eyed jack" It has Zeke's freehand design& HAND Lettering. Sail cloth white with a rustic red drop shadow. The piece looks like an old tackle shop sign you might find along the bay or east coast,such as OBX. This is an amazing find for any vintage tackle collector. This item was pulled from the Williamson's Bear Cat Tackle Company of Orangeburg. South Carolina, over 20 years ago when they closed and sold out to a liquidation buyer(they had been stored as company overstock for 30-40 years before that) Many items were bought, and these Tackle Shop Display Cards sold fast. Some of the bags these were stored in had markings dating to the mid 1950's. These cards were recently recovered from an old SC tackle shop that changed owners. The cardboard card still has four original hammered spoons(S-1450) on it. The cardboard shows some creasing and light soiling. The way the address is written(no zip code) would seem to indicate an early 1960's date or earlier for the piece. The card measures approximately 7 1/2 x 12 inches. Anyone who collects vintage fishing items would likely find the card would make a great display or background piece. Note that there are some marker marks on both the front and rear.
