This magazine played a very important role during the Civil Rights Movement in America. It is a weekly magazine that is news-oriented and its main focus is on the African American population. Some of the topics covered in this magazine include news. Black history sports, religion, business, celebrities, African American culture and fashion. It was started by John H. Johnson who was the head of Johnson ... morePublishing Co. in Chicago. It gained popularity among the public because of its focus on activities that led to the civil rights revolution in the American society. When the Jet Magazine was launched into the market. The company had already created several publications that targeted African Americans. The founder of the magazine was keen on replicating the style used by the Reader’s Digest and the only difference is that it was for the African American community. Jet Magazine targeted a niche that had not been exploited in the market. When it was first started. The magazine’s editors were focused on providing people with news about current events. The news included in the magazine was topical and it addresses international and national events that had an impact on the African American community. This magazine also provided information about the voting process and scholarship application processes. This magazine is like People Magazine because it usually highlights entertainers and there is a lot of information about celebrities. Jet Magazine is still published in a small digest size format. When it was first published. This magazine was only available in black and white.

well-dressed Black woman uses white parking lot late-1950s BIRMINGHAM ALABAMA
Be sure to add me to your- see more PHOTOGRAPHIC. AFRICAN-AMERICAN and BIRMINGHAM ALABAMA items not always found in eBay's so-called"search" Here's a link to all of the PHOTOS I currently have for sale: also. Please see these REAL PHOTO postcards: and my currently available BIRMINGHAM ALABAMA items: and a link to my currently available AFRICAN-AMERICAN items: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Here are 3 vintage late-1950s(see the cars in the background) Polaroid b&w snapshots showing a mini-drama(at least it would be to some people) taking place in the"white business section" of downtown Birmingham. Ca. 1956-59. A well-dressed black woman is calling for her car at a white-owned and white-managed parking lot. Just a block away from the Brown Marx Building on 20th street ... moreNorth in Birmingham. As can be seen from the signs, the(probably) white attendant had to go get her car for her and bring it to her at the entrance where he would likely receive a 25 cent tip from the black lady. This was the 1950s and 25 cents was like 3 or 4 dollars now! This is exactly the kind of thing which would have gotten her labeled as"uppity" by a certain segment of the white population of Birmingham but- truth be known- the company that owned the parking lot probably welcomed her business(the white attendant. Perhaps not so much) I lived in Birmingham at the time and this is exactly the way things were. Very good condition. History in the making. For the most part. Local business in Birmingham Alabama actually wanted to improve relations between black and white at the time but were afraid to make overt efforts because of sorry politicians and because of certain segments of the white working class(who overwhelmingly voted for those sorry politicians because they were manipulated into doing so by the corporate hierarchies in places like Pittsburgh) These photos came out of one of several black estates I've gotten in to lately. I kept wondering why they

Lil' Sis Kathy Wooden Fraternity Paddle Sigma Phi Epsilon Alabama Alpha Chapter Auburn University no date many many signa tures on the back- I counted 55 There could be someone famous in here or better yet. I nf amous! 22" long x 3.5" wide resin coating on front and back has paper with signatures of members I assume. No date Richmond College in the early 20th Century was attended by less than 300 students. Almost half this number belonged to five fraternities previously chartered on the campus. The little Baptist college. Founded in 1830, became home to Sigma Phi Epsilon. Sigma Phi Epsilon was founded because 12 young collegians wanted a campus fellowship based on Judeo/Christian ideals that neither the college community nor the fraternity system at that time could offer. The desire for brotherhood was in the young men's ... moresouls. Sigma Phi Epsilon was needed. Carter Ashton Jenkens. The 18-year-old son of a minister, had been a student at Rutgers University, New Jersey, where he joined Chi Phi Fraternity. When he transferred to Richmond College in the Fall of 1900, he sought companions to take the place of the Chi Phi brothers he had left behind. He found five men who had already been drawn into a bond of friendship and urged them to join him in applying for a charter of Chi Phi at Richmond College. The request for a charter was forwarded to Chi Phi only to meet with refusal. Chi Phi felt that Richmond College was too small for the establishment of a Chi Phi chapter. Wanting to maintain their fellowship. Carter Ashton Jenkens, Benjamin Gaw, William Carter, William Wallace, Thomas Wright, and William Phillips decided to form their own local fraternity. The six original members found six others also searching for a campus fellowship neither the college campus nor the existing fraternity system could offer. The six new members were Lucian Cox. Richard Owens, Edgar Allen, Robert McFarland, Franklin Kerfoot, and Thomas McCaul. The 12 met in October. 1901, in Gaw and Wallace's room on the third floor

VINTAGE LEW'S POLES FOLEY ALABAMA 14' 3 PIECE CANE BAMBOO FISHING POLE
THIS IS A VINTAGE LEW'S POLE'S CANE/ BAMBOO POLE 3 PIECES AND 14' LONG Lew Childre started out selling shrimp as bait to fishermen. And then that evolved into a small tackle shop. One day while pulling a bamboo pole out of the stack for a customer. Lew was disappointed with the inconsistency from one pole to the next. The moment of reflection triggered his insatiable thirst to build better fishing products than anyone else. Lew began experimenting with homegrown bamboo. Figuring out the best growths to cut and how to temper and finish the poles so they would keep their shape indefinitely. His were highly superior products. But the problem was his United States sources for bamboo were limited and the costs for his treating processes required each pole sell for one dollar instead of the going rate of a quarter. Fishermen will pay ... moremore for a better product. became the motto of the man and the Lew’s brand. Lew’s quest for a better bamboo pole took him to Japan. There he found the desired grade of bamboo. And a circle of businessmen who were interested in fishing and the U.S. market. Among them were leaders in manufacturing. Plus a company named Fuji that was specializing in fishing rod components. The likes of which U.S. fishermen had never seen. The Richmond Daily Dispatch(VIRGINIA) dated Aug 24. 1864. This newspaper has a front page heading and breaking news of the siege and attack by Union naval ADMIRAL DAVID FARRAGUT on FT MORGAN. The fort that protected MOBILE, Alabama from Union forces. This was the SIEGE of FT MORGAN which would fall on Aug 24. 1864 to Union naval forces. GREAT ITEM for a CIVIL WAR collector interested in the fighting for Mobile. ALABAMA. Confederate Civil war newspapers are much scarcer than Union Civil War newspapers and the demand for them is quite high. They generally do not have the ... morelarge display headlines as seen in Union Civil War newspapers but their anti-Yankee editorial text and commentary are priceless. The Siege of Fort Morgan occurred during the American Civil War as part of the battle for Mobile Bay in 1864. Union ground forces led by General Gordon Granger conducted a short siege of the Confederate garrison at the mouth of Mobile Bay under the command of General Richard L. Page. The Confederate surrender helped shut down Mobile as an effective Confederate port city. On August 5. 1864, Farragut won a great victory in the Battle of Mobile Bay. Mobile was then the Confederacy's last major port open on the Gulf of Mexico. The bay was heavily mined(tethered naval mines were known as torpedoes at the time) Farragut ordered his fleet to charge the bay. When the monitor USS Tecumseh struck a mine and sank. The others began to pull back. Farragut could see the ships pulling back from his high perch. Where he was lashed to the rigging of his flagship, the USS Hartford. What's the trouble? He shouted through a trumpet from the flagship to the USS Brooklyn. Torpedoes! was shouted back. Damn the torpedoes! said Farragut. Four bells. Capt
