Map of ONTARIO in Counties This is a map published in 1874 in Mitchell’s New General Atlas. With original handcoloring. It is a single sheet measuring slightly over 12 x 15 inches in size, with the map image surrounded by an attractive, ornate border. The map has two small spots of discoloration in its bottom corners(see photo) where it once had tape on its backside to secure the map inside a mat. However, it is otherwise in excellent condition, with the tape having been removed years ago. The map is dated in a credit line printed in very small script in the left corner below the map which says: Entered according to the Act of Congress in the year 1874 by S. Augustus Mitchell in the Office of the Librarian of Congress at Washington. The page is blank on its backside. The map is drawn to a scale of approximately 42 miles to the inch. It is in very good condition with the exception of the upper edge, which has many tears in it. These tears have been somewhat effectively, though not very professionally, repaired by someone who applied white adhesive paper to the back of the map. Ontario Blackbird SK-5 Knife - Very Lightly Used!
This is the Blackbird SK-5 by Ontario and Paul Scheiter of Hedgehog Leatherworks. I picked this knife up about a year ago. But I've only taken it out once. In my defense, I've had some Blind Horse knives and Beckers to keep me occupied. From the little I've used this knife. Though, I feel comfortable saying that it's a great tool. The size is large. But not too large. The micarta scales, despite being boxy, are quite comfortable and good for those with medium or large hands, or even for those wearing gloves. Overall, the geometry of this knife is great! The sheath is also quite good. Perhaps the best factory sheath I've come across, with an ample belt loop, a MOLLE strap in the back, as well as additional lash points on the front. I'm sad to see it go. From our archive of 19th century Great Lakes lighthouse documents: This document is for painting the lining of the Sodus Point Lighthouse with materials needed. The document indicates the work was performed by J. Wickham& Sons in July 1880 In 1824 Congress appropriated $4.500 to construct a lighthouse tower and keeper's residence at Sodus Bay. A year later Ishmael D. Hill, a veteran of the War of 1812, was appointed as its first keeper. By 1869 both structures had deteriorated to the extent that Congress appropriated $14,000 to build a second lighthouse to replace the original tower. This second stone Lighthouse Building, with its attached Tower and Fresnel Lens, was completed in 1871 and became the residence of Sodus Lighthouse Keepers for the next 80 years. This same Lighthouse is still preserved in excellent condition, and has ... morebeen run as a Maritime Museum by the Sodus Bay Historical Society in accordance with an agreement and lease from the Town of Sodus since 1984. Up for auction today I have a beautifully handcrafted pair of wooden Snowshoes made by L Landry in Cartier Ontario. There is some damage to the webbing(as seen in picture 4) which is about 5" long by 3" wide. However it does not interfere with the integrity or strength of the snowshoe. They are being sold as is. They are still very much useable. The straps are made of leather and they are in very good condition.The dimensions are roughly 48" long x 14" wide.
