British Columbia Canada 1892 scarce large antique detailed color map British Columbia Issued 1891-2. Chicago for Rand McNally Fine original antique color printed map. Made approximately 130 years ago. Printed in the late-19th century, on quality paper which retains its inherent structural flexibility and soundness. A much less common map than one might think. Given that it originally appeared in the huge format and quite expensive shipping atlas which had a far smaller distribuition, not in one of the much more common smaller quarto-sized Family home atlases this company produced. In VG or better condition. Some light minor age wear which scarcely warrants any mention[note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws] The printed area remains visually pleasing. A nice impression of a very detailed and uncommon ... moreoversize antique map. Sheet measures c. 20 1/2" W x 14" H. Printed area measures c. 19" W x 12 1/4" H. 15512] Any defects along the sheet edges and in the margins may be seen in the photos. note: All old sheets of printed paper possibly have short edge splits. Each sheet has existed for a very long time and has probably been handled repeatedly in the course of it's existence. It has a history unique to it as an object. Most of the time any edge splits are short. Minor, insignificant and have been closed- either long ago or more recently with small pieces of archival tape. Most often these splits are trivial and easy to overlook visually. Basically, they would not significantly affect the piece adversely. The item is offered as seen. These are original maps that I removed from the atlas myself. They are all guaranteed to be 102 years old. Cartographer A.K. Johnston Size/ Format Map: 26 cm x 19.5 cm(10.25" x 7.75" Page: 30 cm x 25 cm(12" X 9.75" Condition Very good. The maps are bright and crisp. There is only very slight age-toning to the extreme margins. The maps are clean and free of foxing. Tears, or other compromises. There is a small light stain on the upper left margin. Not affecting the map. Remarks This 1906 atlas. Finally published a few years after her death, was dedicated to Queen Victoria. Most of the maps had been previously published by W. A.K. Many of the timberlands managed by British Columbia Forest Products Limited on Vancouver Island are in"THE LAND OF MAQUINNA" and the major tree farm license is named after this outstanding Leader. A number of the descendents of the early Nootkas are now employed in our logging operations. A forest environment they know so well. It seemed appropriate to honor these proud people by using a sketch of Maquinna, done about 1785 as a vignette on the face of our Share Certificates. On the top of the history card is"BRITISH COLUMBIA FOREST PRODUCTS LIMITED" along with their logo. At the bottom it reads"VIGNETTE ENGRAVED BY CANADIAN BANK NOTE" The paperweight measures 4-1/4" x 3-1/4" is 3/4" deep. It shows light surface scratches otherwise nice condition.
