I have up for auction. Some misc. porcelain letters that I located in a old warehouse up on a shelf. The letters appear to be"Gulf" Oil Co. blue and they stand 10" high with various widths depending on the letter. The letters could have been used for a dealers initial or extra letters for a special use. Gulf Gasoline Lighted Swihart Advertising Clock Sign Gas & Oil Petrolina NASCAR
For your bidding I have a Gulf Gasoline lighted Swihart wall clock. Measuring 15” in diameter the clock face is new and in mint condition. The clock isn’t stamped with a build. But it is likely from the 1960’s. In preparing the clock for sale all wire connections were tightened, the clock motor was lubricated and tested for both accuracy and quietness, and a detail cleansing was performed. While going thru my pre-sale checklist the only item requiring attention was replacing the clock hands, additional I decided to convert the lighting from a florescent bulb to incandescent bulbs. Overall this clock is in excellent condition as it runs well, is clean, lights up, is quiet and keeps accurate time as expected. A group of investors came together to promote the development of a modern refinery at nearby Port Arthur to process the oil. The largest investor was William Larimer Mellon of the Pittsburgh Mellon banking family. Other investors included many of Mellon's Pennsylvania clients as well as some Texas wildcatters. Mellon Bank and Gulf Oil remained closely associated thereafter. The Gulf Oil Corporation itself was formed in 1907 through the amalgamation of a number of oil businesses, principally the J.M.
