Western Papuan Gulf, New Guinea collected 20 years ago. 28" long x 8" wide. Natural pigment colors, Item 10A4. Gope boards from are elliptical in shape and incised with brightly colored abstract patterns. Warriors were entitled to have a Gope board for each act of bravery. And a board, from the vanquished enemy's canoe held particular significance, transferring some of its previous owner's strength to the victor. Gope boards serve several functions and are a traditional carving from the eastern Papuan gulf only. I got it from a box of these I bought that has most of them still in original clear plastic sleeves. I am not sure of the age. But they are made by Osborne who was making mechanical pencils at least as far back as the 1930s. This has a two and a three digit phone# on it so I am guessing it goes back to at least the early 1950s and possibly the 40s. Western Papuan Gulf, New Guinea collected 20 years ago. 38" long x 10" wide. Natural pigment colors, Item 10A15. Gope boards from are elliptical in shape and incised with brightly colored abstract patterns. Warriors were entitled to have a Gope board for each act of bravery. And a board, from the vanquished enemy's canoe held particular significance, transferring some of its previous owner's strength to the victor. LOT Vintage Gulf Oil Chrome Polish Can and Mobil Polishing Cloth Can
Up for bid are two vintage metal cans from two of the major oil companies—Gulf Oil and Mobil Oil. The first one is a can of Gulf Chrome Polish that is still mostly full. This product was made by the Gulf Tire& Supply Company in Pittsburgh. PA, a subsidiary of Gulf Oil Co. The can measures about five inches high, three inches wide and about one and one-half inches deep. There is some rust on the surface in spots as shown in the pictures. The second item is a black polishing cloth that came in two piece square can, a Mobil“LustreCloth. The cloth was used in the past, but the can is a wonderful piece of vintage oil company product advertising. This was from Mobil, a company owned by SOCONY-VACUUM Oil Company as noted on the lower part of the back of the can. This can measures 5.5 inches high, 3.5 inches wide, and 1.5 inches deep. This map opens to 18" x 24" and has great detail on old road alignments. With cartography by Rand McNally. It covers the area between Mount Clemons and Lake Erie, west to Ann Arbor, including Dearborn, Pontiac, Ypsilanti, Saline, Grosse Pointe, St. Clair Shores, Inkster, Wayne, Ferndale, Royal Oak, and more. On the reverse side there is a plan of downtown Detroit that locates parks and public buildings. Including Briggs Stadium, home park of the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions. Tiles have been gently tumbled to remove sharp edges for easier grouting and to give a sea glass smooth finish. All tiles have been washed and ready for use. These tiles were cut from top quality Kokomo stained glass sheets. These tiles are handcut so there are no perfect squares and will vary slightly in size. Tiles are 1/8" Picture does not do tiles justice. Tiles are brighter and shinier than picture depicts. Any visible marks are glare from the camera lens.
