Here is a great set of Chief of Police badges consisting of the breast badge and the hat badge. These are obsolete badges from Old Town. Maine. They are both 2-1/2" tall. There is no hallmark on the back that I can find. They both show wear and have great patina. The hat badge has an applied brass"CHIEF" emb lem at the bottom. The Maine state seal is in the center of both badges. This badge complies with ebay policies and guidelines. May 26. 1863 Civil War Letter from C.W. Soldier in New Orleans, LA to Jay, Maine A Maine Civil War soldier. L. C. Davenport, wrote this letter to his uncle, G.F. Davenport, who lived in Jay, Maine. He writes that Charles is sick and in the hospital in Plaquemine. I assume that Charles is a Maine soldier that they both know and possibly related. He writes that B Company of the 28th Regiment is there and other Companys are at Bonecarry& some are at Donaldsonville. He mentions being in a good place. He also writes about light fighting going on in Fort Hudson and some prisoners have been taken. Also, that the 21st and 27th Maine are there and in the fight, The later part of the letter concerns his appreciation for the kindness that G.F. Davenport and his wife Melinda have given him. Fine solid clean complete condition- works great with the unique metal leg folding mechanisms. Information about the Paris Manufacturing Company which operated between 1862 and 1989: The Paris Manufacturing Company had modest beginnings. In 1861 a man named Henry Franklin Morton. Starting with a hobby, began what would become the largest and longest operating sled company in American history…Early on he was plagued with a serious eye condition…Living in West Sumner, Maine with his wife Lucilla in 1861, he started making rakes and non-steerable sleds ... moreas a hobby to make extra money. He assembled fifty sleds that his wife Lucilla hand painted in the family kitchen and they were successful in selling them. The following year, Mr. Morton formed a stock company and hired four employees…he was invited to move his company to Paris Hill where he set up production under the name of Paris Hill Manufacturing Company. As business grew, so did the line of products. Go-carts, wagons, wheelbarrows, step ladders, ironing boards, children’s desks, furniture and more were added to keep the factory running all year long. Eventually the company moved to South Paris, Maine, to be closer to the local railroad freight depot and was renamed the Paris Manufacturing Company.

We offer for sale this Exquisite Maine Penobscot Native American Sewing Basket Circa 1890-1910. It is 10 inches diameter and 2 1/2” tall. Over 100 years old. Woven. Ash splint, lidded basket, from a Maine Estate sale. They do beautiful basket work and this is a fine example it is made of woven sweet grass. Great condition very tiny break on bottom(difficult to see) see photos. Great Patina and colors. Just lovely. It is typical Northeastern form of basket known as the sewing basket' which typically came in varying sizes. And was meant to hold a lady's sewing supplies. Buyer pays actual USPS Priority mail.

Antique Maine Indian rectangular lidded basket - C/1860-1880
One of the earlier Maine Indian baskets. Plain, utilitarian and old! This is 8" long, 5.5" across and 5" high to top of lid. Made entirely of brown ash- the traditional basketry material of Maine and Eastern Canadian Indian basketmakers. The very fine weaver splints on the basket bottom and the overhanging part of the lid are very fine- 1/16" The top of the lid and the bottom of the basket are woven with much wider weaver splints, 1/2" The combination of very fine and wider splints used in this fashion is one indication of an early basket. The foundation splints on the basket bottom are varying widths- hand cut- not cut with basket gauge, also indicates an very early piece. The rim of the basket and lid are done with hand carved bentwood, in later baskets of smaller sizes such as this, including most made after 1880. ... morethe rims here would have been done with an ash splint. The ends of the foundation splints are carved to a point and bent over the rims and woven back into the inside of the basket- again an earlier technique not done in the past 125 years. Finally. this basket"bellies out" has an outward bulge at the side centers. Any Maine Indian basket with"bellies" or"bulges" are early- 1870 or earlier. Near perfect condition- has 1 splint on lid top- cracked a bit- but not broken thru I value these very old and quite rare baskets. and hope the buyer will appreciate it's age and it's place in the progression of Maine Indian basketry. Made by the Penobscot Indians in Maine. This old twine basket measures around 8 1/2 inches tall and the diameter of the top opening is 5 1/2. The top has a hole in the center for yarn or twine. Very colorful inside withgreen and orange/pink. But the outside is faded and you see mostly tan with a hint of the other colors. It has some damage to the lid as you can see in the last two photos. Some of the braid around the top has come undone so check out the pictures. I am offering this at a low price because of that. But the bottom is quite nice.
