Vintage 40s Stangl Pottery Cerulean Warbler Male Songbird Bird #3457 Trenton NJ
Stangl Pottery was established 1930 in Trenton New Jersey. And by the 1940s employed expert painters for their colorful line of North American songbirds. Up for auction is one of their most beautiful renditions—the Cerulean Warbler. This lovely figurine is in the characteristic pose of this small bird that makes its home in the forests of Eastern North America—the head and body create a level line with the tail flared and cocked at a 45 degree angle—very graceful and so adorable. Equally beautiful is the base the bird sits upon—leaves in several shades of green and gold, topped with a rose pink floral cluster. The bird is signed on the bottom by the artist, who painted this bird true to nature—see photos. It also has the red oval stating: Stangl Pottery Birds. This figurine is in excellent condition with the exception of a glaze pop at the ... moreend of one of the tail feathers—it is obviously an old spot—see photos. The bird and stand measures approximately 4 ½” from tail to beak, 4+” at the tail, and 3” wide at the base. The tip of one tail feather has an old color loss(see photos) This is minor, but mentioned for accuracy of condition. Please keep in mind this is not a new item. I try to describe items as accurately as possible. But cannot always detail each flaw. Crazing and manufacturing flaws such as pin heads, color variations, straw marks, bubbles, inclusions, and other manufacturing anomalies are considered normal for glass, china, and pottery of age. Vintage Vaughan Novelty Co. Chicago(Established 1910- closed 1984) Advertising Scoop Marked on side of handle: CENTRAL PHARMACY. PHONE CARTERET 8-0981 Marked in Scoop base: Level Full 1/4 Cup Measures 7.5" long. Scoop bowl is 2.5" widest point. Metal scoop was given out as a promotional item by this pharmacy- drug store. It is not dated. However, I did some online research and found a Joseph Sulmona owned the Central Pharmacy at 62 Roosevelt Avenue, Carteret, NJ in 1930-1931. There was a notation about him in the April 3, 1931 Carteret Press. I believe this is the same pharmacy as named on the advertising scoop. While scoop does not have a maker's mark. These types of metal promotional items were made by Vaughan Novelty Co. in Chicago at one time. I believe they are the maker of this scoop. Condition of the scoop is as you see ... morein the photos. I cleaned the metal. However, it was difficult to remove soiling between the raised lettering on the handle. Metal has rusting-pitting. Especially in the scoop bowl. Metal has soiling. Scratch and other discoloration marks in the patina surface. It is vintage old, pre-owned and was likely used. It is being sold"as is" as was found as a collectible for those interested in pharmacy and/or Carteret items. Please be sure you are ok with the metal condition before buying. This Jersey girl has a piece of NJ history from the great Stangl Pottery of Trenton. NJ. This is a vintage piece with no chips or marks. It measures 11" x 5" The bottom shows marks from the tripod used during firing. The color is green inside with an outside color that I've seen described as brown. But I think has a purplish hue. This is one of my favorite pieces that I bought about 25 years ago.together with some other similar pieces I haven't found since the move. This is a very quirky. This is a set of Sterling Silver Antique Candlesticks. They stand 9 3/4" T X 3 1/2"W. They are marked on the bottom with the A.M. Soffel Co. Silver mark. Sterling 67 Weighted. If you look very closely, which you won't be able to see in the pictures very lightly they are each etched one says 11-246 and the other says 11-242 not sure if that means anything. These were found in a trunk that belonged to my husband's grandmother. They are monogrammed MAK. A being in the center. The MAK is in the center of a diamond and the diamond is set in a type of shield. They need to be professionally polished. There are some scratches, but nothing that couldn't be polished out. On one of the candlesticks there are a few small dents on upper left side. I tried to take a picture, but it was very hard to see. I looked up the A.M. Soffel ... moreCo. silver maker. PARK DRUG STORE, 5 PARK PLACE, MORRISTOWN, NJ paper labeled pharmacist bottle. It measures approx 6” tall(including the cork) and approx 2 1/8” in width at its maximum. There is about ½” of Witch Hazel& Arnica. still left inside. Park Drug Store was a Prescription Druggist at the time. The bottle has“4” embossed on the upper backside and on the bottom there is a“K” and“2” embossed in the glass. The telephone number“1990” attests to its age. The bottle itself has no chips or cracks. Let the images be your guide to condition. The cork is worn as the label is in certain areas, but still very readable. Still an interesting historical bottle for the Morristown NJ collection. It is a beautiful Hand painted floral design of yellow roses with a blush. The plate measures almost 10 inches across. There is a ½ gold trim that is in very good condition. The painting on the front of the plate is also in very good condition. There are no chips. Cracks, or crazing. What we did notice is that you can see a few of the brush strokes under the glaze, just proving this is a hand painted dish.
