Travel brouchures and other memorabilia. I have inherited several boxes of her items and will be listing them for auction/sale. Set of 8 Antique Handcarved Decoys from Fort Francis, Ontario Canada
Hi All; Up for sale is a set of eight antique duck decoys. I received them a decade ago and was told that they came from Ft. Frances. Ontario; which is located on the Minnesota border. They are what I consider the purest form of decoys(Folk-art) as they were hand-carved by someone who loved to hunt or needed them to put food on the table. These were not carved for the art market! My estimate was that they were carved in the 1940's to 1950's. They come with hand made lead weights and some have the original cord as well. The decoys are black and grey with some white streaks on their backs. They are in good used condition(some have some pellet holes- adds character) It is almost impossible to find a large group of antique decoys that have not been broken up and sold individually. The Ontario Regiment(Canadian) also known as the"Black Cats" fought in the Italian Campaign, first in Sicily with the Canadian Armored Brigade and then on the mainland with the 17th Brigade of the 5th British Division. The Ontario Regiment earned battle honors fighting at"The Gully" Monte Cassino, Villa Grande, Orsonga, Ortona and the Gothic Line. They eventually moved onto the European mainland and fought in Arnheim, Belgium with the Canadian Corp. It has a copper bell, with a brass mouthpiece, brass fluted trim and brass regimental crest.
