This map is from the book Our Western Empire or the New West Beyond the Mississippi by L.P. Brockett. A.M. M.D. At this time. Washington is still a territory to enter the Union in 1889. Each of the counties is shown in different colors. The county structure is vastly different in Washington and Oregon than from today. All topographical features are detailed, including the Great Plateau of the Columbia, the mountains, streams, rivers, islands, coastline, lakes and rapids. The few then existing railroads are shown and named- including the Northern Pacific and the Oregon and California Railroad. Friendship Pottery Roseville OH 9 1/2" Blue Band Bowl Oregon Trail RARE
Up for your consideration is a 9 1/2" round mixing bowl made by friendship pottery in Roseville. Ohio. It is a creamy color with blue painted bands. On the inside of the bowl it is written: Oregon Trail, 150 years, 1843-1993, sesquicentennial" with a covered wagon and mountain design. I cannot tell if it is transferred onto the bowl or if it is etched, there seems to be a bluish color to part of it when it is held a certain direction. It looks to be part of the original design. I hope you can see it in the photos, it was hard to get the bowl in just the right light to see the detail. I have not been able to find another bowl like this one, it seems to be a vrey rare design. There are only minor surface scratches on the inside of the bowl. Otherwise there are no chips, cracks, repairs or crazing to be found on the bowl.It looks to ... morehave been more of a display piece than used for cooking purposes. There is some minor scuffing on the unglazed portion of the rim, but this should wash off easily and cannot be seen due to its location. New Mexico in April of 1989 by a Chicago art collector for his Scottsdale home and is in excellent. Clean condition. Described as follows BEAUTIFUL" UMATILLA Indian painted rawhide fringed cylindrical container for ceremonial objects Oregon circa 1920's. Length 21" Widest diameter 5.5" fringe length 35" average. Painted on the front and the cylindrical cap in a composition of blocks and triangular figures in red. Dark green& yellow, outlined in dark blue. With an agriculture of grazing, horse-raising and some wheat-ranching. The Umatilla.
