There is a one inch repair on the right sleeve and red paint transfer on the lower back hem. There are lots of puck and stic k marks as well. This jersey has the old ribbo n style fight strap. The front crest is a sewn on twill and embroidered emblem. The numbers and shou lder emblems are heat transferred and cracking/flaking very badly. Handling the jersey causes them to flake off more. The specimen comes with an original label that states it is uvarovite garnet from Magg. Quebec, Canada. I could find no reference to Magg, Quebec, so I became curious. What I discovered is that it must be from"Magog" and not"Magg" So upon doing additional research, I discovered that there was a point in time when specimens from this area were thought to be uvarovite garnet, but upon further research. It was discovered that they were actually chromium grossular garnets. More research followed to try to tie down the actual locality, and I further discovered that this piece is almost certainly from the old Orford Nickel mine, ... moreSt-Denis-de-Brompton, Le Val-Saint-François RCM, Estrie, Québec, Canada, which is less than 10 miles from Magog. If you check out the photo's on the Mindat web site for chrome grossular from this locality, you will see many photo's of specimens that are nearly identical to this piece. So that's the story I have worked out. I can't give you a 100% guarantee on this, but personally I am quite sure it is correct. I'm including labels for both with the specimen just in case, along with the original label: This is a fine example composed of rich coatings of mini lustrous green crystals covering most of the exterior of a diopside/olivine rich matrix measuring 1.7 x 1.2 x 1.4 cm in size and it comes professionally labeled and mounted in a 1.25 inch square plastic case for display! The Orford Nickel Mine was first explored in 1860 as a copper prospect. Mining for nickel was done from 1877 until the mine closed in 1882. The mine is famous for producing excellent specimens of diopside. Chromium grossular garnet and millerite in the past.
