This interesting lot is in a variety of conditions. The bank bag is pretty rough. It was obviously used a lot. The receipt book. Apart from some yellowing, appears to be in mint condition. The pins are in great condition. I acquired them through a large lot of things I purchased. These were bagged together, so I decided to sell them together. If I had to guess. I would say the bank bag is from the 1940's, however, I am not sure. The receipt book, based on my research, seems to confirm that decade. I also researched the pins and they also seem to be from the 40's. The bag is 17" x 8" and has a stamp with AEOT(possibly the company that used it? The receipt book brags about being able to create an unalterable copy. The two pin backs are slightly larger than a 50 cent piece. Comes from a smoke free home Free shipping!

Tivoli is at the intersection of State highways 35 and 239, near the mouth of the Guadalupe River in northeastern Refugio County. It was founded by rancher and entrepreneur Preston R. Austin in 1907 and named after his Tivoli Ranch. Austin and his partner, Jesse C. McDowell, had previously established a large cotton gin and commissary nearby. In August 1907 surveyor J. W. Ward platted a townsite of five blocks. In 1913 L. A. Gueringer replatted the townsite and added five more blocks. Among the earliest buildings in the town was the Catholic church built and donated by Austin around 1908. He also donated the town's first school about the same time. A post office opened in 1912 with M. M. Grapeland is at the intersection of U.S. Highway 287 and Farm Road 227, twelve miles north of Crockett in northern Houston County. In the early decades of Houston County the Grapeland area was a crossroads on the route from Crockett to Palestine. The home of an early resident near the intersection served as a mail drop for settlers in the area. The original settlement took the name of Grapevine from the wild fruit that flourished in the region's sandy soil. The name was changed to Grapeland in 1873, when application was made for a post office. In 1872 the Houston and Great Northern Railroad Company completed its line through the area and turned over a 640-acre tract to the New York and Texas Land Company ... morefor development as a townsite. The community grew quickly as a railroad depot and commercial center for local cotton producers. By the first decade of the twentieth century Grapeland had five general stores, two cotton gins, several mills, a hotel, a newspaper, and various other enterprises. In these years the town's population exceeded 400. A fire razed fifteen businesses in downtown Grapeland in 1913, but the town promptly rebuilt in brick. It has been incorporated since 1924. Cotton production and ranching were the basis of initial growth in the community, and forestry is important in the local economy. The population approached 1,200 in the 1920s and remained near that figure through the 1960s. Cotton declined in importance to the area economy and after World War II peanuts replaced it as the primary agricultural product. After 1936 oil and gas production became another important source of income for the town. Local manufactures include a steel fabrication plant. Growth in the 1970s and early 1980s resulted in a population increase of more than 35 percent; in 1990 the population stood at 1,450. The population increased by one to 1,451 in 2000. Shiner is at the intersection of U.S. Highway 90A and State Highway 95, fourteen miles west of Hallettsville in western Lavaca County. In 1885 a post office called Half Moon was opened at a trading post near the present site of Shiner. When the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway came to the area in 1887 it bypassed Half Moon and built through land owned by Henry B. Shiner. Shiner donated 250 acres for a right-of-way and depot, and a town soon grew around the new transportation facilities. At first the community was called New Half Moon, but in 1888 its name was changed to Shiner. Shiner was incorporated in 1890, and L. P. Amsler was elected the first mayor. Czech and German immigrants soon ... morebecame the dominant ethnic groups, and Shiner developed a cohesive Czech community through social organizations such as the National Sokol Society and the Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas. Milano is at the intersection of U.S. Highway 79 and State Highway 36, twelve miles southeast of Cameron in southeastern Milam County. The International-Great Northern Railroad laid out the original site of Milano in 1874 about 1½ miles west of what is now its site. A post office opened the same year, and a Baptist church was soon established; the community became a voting precinct in 1880. Local sources offer several possibilities for the origin of the name. One story suggests that the town was named for Milan, Italy, because of the similarity of the climates; another says that the name was to have been Milam, but the Post Office Department either got it wrong or changed it ... moreintentionally because a Milam, Texas, already existed. When the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway built the section of track between Brenham and Belton in 1881, it established the town of Milano Junction at its intersection with the International-Great Northern, less than two miles east of Milano. Milano reached a peak in 1939, when 920 residents were reported there. The number of residents began to decline in the early 1940s and fell to a low of 380 by the early 1970s before beginning to grow again in the late 1970s. On State highways 16 and 108, Farm Road 2372, and the Missouri Pacific Railroad in southwestern Palo Pinto County, was one of several towns developed about 1880 when the Texas and Pacific Railway began service. The site, known earlier as North Fork for its location on Palo Pinto Creek, was laid out on the land of two early ranchers, Stephen Bethel Strawn and James N. Stuart. Stuart built the area's first house in 1875. A community to the west, Russell's Pocket, and one to the east, Davidsonville, were merged to form Strawn. The population was 400 in 1891. The first Palo Pinto County oil was discovered near Strawn in 1895, but development awaited the ... moreinterest of the Strawn Coal Mining Company and the Texas and Pacific Coal and Oil Company in 1915. Sterling in his capacity as Chairman of the Board of the Humble Oil& Refining Company of Houston. Texas. This letter is dated November 22, 1922 and was sent by Sterling to George H. Jones, Treasurer of the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey in New York City. This letter is on Humble Oil& Refining Stationary with"R.S. Sterling Chairman Of the Board" printed in the upper left hand corner with the original Standard Oil Company routing slip still affixed to the letter. In this letter Sterling advises that he has enclosed payment for notes against A.A. Sterling. Harry Baker and F.M. Sterling totalling more than $60,000 and asks"Kindly forward their notes, together with collateral, to me for delivery ... moreto them. Ross also writes: I am going to ask you to carry the note of Mrs. Sterling sixty days longer. As you know. I expect to dispose of my railroad early in January and will have sufficient money to lend this amount to Mrs. Sterling. This letter is boldly signed in large letters" R.S. Sterling" This letter is from an estate discovery. Fresh to the market and has never been offered for sale before. Ross Shaw Sterling founded the Humble Oil Company in 1911 and went on to be elected Governor of Texas. This letter suggests that the Standard Oil Company had made substantial loans to members of his family. The Harry Baker referred to in the letter was Sterling's personal chauffer and the railroad referred to must be the Dayton-Goose Creek Railway athough Sterling didn't sell those holdings to the Southern Pacific until 1926. This letter is the original retained in the files of the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey's Treasury Department. Overall condiiton is very good. Email any questions. Thanks for looking.
