Up for auction is a WW2 era Zippo lighter with Pat number 2032695 dating it to 1942-1945. The lighter has an applied US Army 141st Infantry Regiment. 1st Texas Infantry"Remember The Alamo" DUI crest soldered onto it. On its back there is an inscription"Koenig Elelectric Co. Laredo, Texas" and was likely the soldiers civilian employer prior to elisting or after he was called to active duty when he added the DUI to the lighter for his time serving with this unit. On a heavy acid free sheet, of the original 1780 map which is in the Electric Books collection. It is several times larger than the original and allows the great detail and notation to be read easily. The overall effect of the map and its color is luminous and it should be framed and viewed under good light. About the original map: In this period some time before the American Revolution and the Louisiana Purchase. Spain ruled all of what is now New Mexico, Texas and Mexico. All of that would change in a few years as Mexico overthrew the Spanish rule, Texas separated from Mexico and eventually Mexico lost the northern part of its empire. This French map of the ... moresouthern part of North America is from the work of Rigobert Bonne. The striking multi-hue outline coloration was done by hand and added later. The map shows as far north as Santa Fe and to just below Guadalajara. Also including the northern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula. The southern coast of the United States in included to western Florida, and the river systems are included inland, especially for Texas. There are two references to Texas. Both the region and a settlement of that name on the Red River, near present-day Austin. This early map also shows Indian Territory which had been formed in the 1830's as well as Taos and Santa Fe which had been claimed by the Texas Republic. Sheet size: 16' x 20" Available in several sizes From an original in the Electric Books Collection. This beautiful map was printed in the O.W. Gray National Atlas. It was drawn by Frank A. Gray who did many of the outstanding maps for the Gray Atlases of the period. Accurate to about 1876 in the post Civil War/Reconstruction era as the railroads were beginning to expand again and the great Cattle Trails were still in progress. This fine map is full of detail. The Comanche's and Kiowa's were still a threat. Most of the Counties had been organized and were on the map but many were still not functional in the Panhandle, the LLano Estacado area and in the far west. In Indian Territory. When the Civil War erupted. Grierson enlisted as a captain and aide-de-camp to Major General Benjamin M. Prentiss. He was promoted to major in the 6th Illinois Cavalry on October 24, 1861 and colonel of the unit on April 13, 1862. In November 1862. Grierson became a brigade commander in the cavalry division of the Army of the Tennessee. He was promoted to brigadier general of volunteers in June 1863, shortly before leading his brigade on a highly-successful raid deep into enemy territory that drew Confederate resources away from Ulysses S. Grant's Vicksburg assault. In 1864 Grierson was appointed commander of a cavalry division in the Army of the Tennessee, then commander all cavalry units in the District of West Tennessee, and finally commander of the Cavalry Corps of the Army of the Mississippi.
