These Texas style or Tex-Mex style spurs have 3 dimensional silver inlaid& engraved double-mounted heel bands, shanks& buttons, with silver inlaid& engraved tops& bottoms of the shanks, double silver mounted rowels, and fine BIG sterling silver engraved 3 dimensional concho spur straps with engraved silver plated 3 dimensional buckles. These spurs are completely hand made, using only simple hand tools such a hammers, files, hand drills& chisels. These unusual hand made spurs are about 6 3/16" overall with a 3 1/2" heel band opening, made for a BIG Man. The swell center shaped heel bands are about 1 1/16" wide with the ends being sculptured in a 1/2 bow tie pattern at the tops, bottoms and ends. Both the outside and inside heel bands, shanks and buttons have a piece of silver overlaid; then the design is chiseled out and the back ground is hammered& depressed with a zig zag engraving tool that creates the 3 dimensional effect. Bob Fudge broke horses on ranches near his home in Lampasas County,Texas and left home at 16 for the horse and cattle drives north. He made many of the early drives, with 2000-3000 head herds and clearly recounts the way of the Cowboy. Rough broncs, thirsty herds, stampedes, swimming the cattle across the Red River and the ice-filled Missouri River and more. The real story including Charley Goodnight, Rustlers, ... morethe Trail Towns, Saloons, both starving and hostile Indians and his days as a rider for the big cow outfits before ranching on his own late in life. The XIT, N-N, Laurel Leaf ranch and some of the 100,00 head ranch herds of the day. Charlie Russell, Teddy Roosevelt, Pat Garrett and others from our history were all friends of Bob Fudge. The reader will experience the non-Hollywood story here and surely a better appreciation of a way of life and human character that has virtually disappeared. There are a few period photos and some ink illustrations scattered within this book. Horseback all his life. Bob Fudge died from complications of a fall from his horse on his own ranch in Southeast Montana at age 71. First: a couple of apologies about my pictures. First. What may look like vague vertical lines on the photo are not; they are just reflections in the glass. Second, although my close-ups are a little out of focus, the photo is not; the details of the ship are sharp and precise. Old handcolored photograph in the original pressed painted 12” x 8” frame. And in its original 2-piece cardboard box. In realistic colors, a detailed view of a World War I ship identified as the U. S. S. Wyoming and its crew, in details, as I said above, clear and sharp-lined. Original backing, with no screws or hangers. In other words, it was presented to someone or bought, and never hung or maybe even taken out of the box. PESTLE: TINY BELL-STYLE; LANDER. WYOMING Length: 4 3/4" Width: 3 1/4" Thick: 2 1/2" Weight: 10.1 oz This is a small. Well-used bell-style pestle from the west-central part of Wyoming. It comes from a decades-old collection from a long-time cowboy family in the region. Usually bell pestles are much larger/heavier. This one is tiny and has seen a lot of use in crushing/grinding small foods. Like nuts, small roots and such. The flattened top area of the artifact fits nicely against the inside. Wrap-over fingers of one's hand allowing for much needed leverage when using such a small pestle. The bottom shows the drag-angle of the stone. The absolutely intriguing item about this piece is its antiquity-there's a fine mineral patina coating one side. This happens when a stone is partially immersed in an mineral-rich intermittent ... morestream and many centuries of water flow/drying allows for slow accumulation of this tan coating. Sometimes this is seen with arrow points in the region. Other times with grinding stones. And now. With this very cute pestle. This area of Wyoming was the land of the Shoshone Native Americans. The Shoshone arose out of various cultures of indigenous peoples who had been in the territory for thousands of years. By the 1840s the population of these Shoshone had been severely reduced due to continuous warfare and the introduction of infectious diseases. Stones such as this were used near waterways to crush and grind various plants-like corn/berries- and animal bones. They were a necessary and important part of the food preparation technology of indigenous people. Minor pitting and dings are evident along the sides/bottom of this wonderful artifact.

There is a 2" tear(see zoomed scan) at the top edge of the cover; and a matching 2 inch tear at the top of the first leaf in the book(see zoomed scan for that also- the Horton's ad) Otherwise the book is in NEAR VERY GOOD CONDITION, tight and clean with only very minor wear(like a small dog-ear at the top for-edge corner of a few leaves) A really neat promo book from 70 years ago. NOTE: some of my scans may have what appear to be scratches and/or pencil scribbles but in actuality those are scratches on the glass bed of my scanner.
