Black Americana Baby Doll Feed Sack Head, Body Handmade Chenille Bunting
Of all of the dolls that I have in my collection. This is my favorite one. This Black Americana doll is perhaps the oldest that I have. It was made by scraps that were left over from some bedspread that had seen the end of it's live. The head and body are made from brown feed sacks that either came that way or were dyed that color. The arms are hollow. This is a tiny infant. He has a pacifier in his mouth and that is attached to a string that also contain very old buttons that were used to entertain the child when he was awake. He has one spring of hair on top of his head with a ribbon. The blue chenille bedspread forms his bunting. This doll came with a little dog that was made by a child out of a brown fabric. The dog is in my store. This doll has no legs in his bunting. But he is just so adorable. Even though the pacifier is a button, ... morewhen he holds it you cannot tell. RARE LOVELY 1850 SATIN BLACK/PINK CHENILLE EMBROIDERED LYONS FLORAL SHAWL FROM MET MUSEUM NYC This antique shawl was made around 1850 in France of soft satin with chenille embroidered flowers and vines. The shawl is reversible. Although the embroidery is meant to be seen on the black side. The pink side is gorgeous also. It was de-accessioned from the Metropolitan Art Museum Costume Department. It was beautifully cared for there. It is 66 1/2 x 65 1/2 inches, a nice large shawl. The satin is a nice heavy satin and in very good condition. The chenille embroidery forms a pattern along two edges of flowers and vines in red, gold, white, green, blue, pink and beige colors. The shawl has a wonderful swag fringe which is applied on all four sides and in excellent condition. The shawl is very light and soft to the touch, made from light but substantial ... moresilk. Not all shawls are equal! This gorgeous survivor of silk weaving from the silk center of Lyons is a fabulous one. The exquisite harmony of the design and fine color of this shawl makes it unusually beautiful quality. It is very clean and has no smells and is very soft to the touch. There are no mends. There are no smells. The black side has some almost invisible abrasion to it from wear in the center. But not enough for concern and when it is folded over you cannot see it. The shawl is in stable, strong condition. The colors are brilliant and glorious. The design is unique and fascinating. I have expertise in textiles. Especially Indian and European shawls. For auction is a colorful antique pillow cover in a floral pattern that looks like chenille. The vase is beige with burgundy highlights and it is filled with puffy gold and orange flowers and green foliage. The background fabric is rich soft black velvet. The velvet portion inside the selvedge portion of the fabric measures approximately 17 inches square and has a muslin backing. Photos were taken in sunlight which makes the flowers glow. The last 3 photos show the stitching on muslin lined back of the pillow cover. Very light soil from gentle use and the selvedge edges are rough. Welcome! Recently I attended an estate sale. I purchased several handmade pieces. As long as I could use it I kept it. I am only selling ones that I could not find a place for. The seller told me her grandmother did all the work mostly in the 40's& 50's- they were made and packed away. I love these! They are beautiful and the work is outstanding. Please use the zoom to see the detail. Each pillow when finished will measure approximately 17" square. This type of work was popular in the 1940's. The embroidery is worked throught the printed pattern and a layer of satin. All of the embroidery work has been done. Next is to sew a back on each and stuff the pillow. The inner grosgrain band, the elastic hair cord. But the millinery is more current. The pale yellow and green fabric flowers are high quality, but have plastic centers. Straw hat base is hard, like a helmet, and the crown is more elliptical than typically found. Around the base of the crown is wide black ruched lace and the flowers are glued to that. At the rear is a fluffy gathering of very fine and soft tulle netting. Black veil, with its 3-d 1/4" chenille dots looks nice either worn atop the hat or draping over the edge(about 3" for you to peer through. The only label is a size ... more3. Edwardian Beaded Collar and Cuff Set with Black and Beige Chenille Trim
Edwardian Beaded Collar and Cuff Set with Black and Beige Chenille Trim click picture to enlarge A lovely beaded Edwardian collar and cuff set with packed white microbeads and rows of black and beige chenille trim in a wavy scalloped design. Smart and elegant. The collar is 24" long and each cuff is 7 3/4" long. They appear to be hand beaded on a rayon net ground. The black chenille is edged with white microbeads while the beige is not. The set is in very good condition for age, with no apparent bead loss, no rips, tears, repairs, stains or musty odors. However, although the cuffs have no flaws, the collar has two small areas where the beige chennile is coming off which are not highly noticeable. Both would be on the back of the collar, which is 2 1/4" at the widest(back) and narrows to a point. The cuffs are 2" at the ... morewidest point. All 4 edges are also finished with tufts in these colors. It measures approx. 55" x 57" and the ground cloth is a light cotton in a maize tone. This truly is a CUTTER- to be used for the smaller areas or the tufted lines as trim. There are 3-4 areas of holes and spots. Mostly near edges. An area near the foot of the cover has light dye transfer from the black yarns. There is light fading to some red tufts near edges or where exposed. The cover has been hand laundered and line dried. Estate sale find of an antique or vintage Santa Claus. He is holding a tree. He has a red felt cloth coat. Black felt(fuzzy paper? pants and black chenille(pipe cleaner) boots. I don't know what the face is made of. The belt looks like crepe paper. He is 4-1/4" tall to the point of his hat. Condition: There are no odors. The red felt is bright not faded and he stands nicely. The white trim and his beard have yellowed. The first piece is a pink and gray hobnail with silver lurex threads running through it and measures 18" x 25" The second piece has pink pops with black gingham checks and measures 11.75" x 16" This is my last piece of this lovely fabric.
