Offered here is a handsome sterling silver salad set in the Oval Twist pattern first issued by Whiting in 1880. The fork is 9 3/4" in length and has one tine that is a bit bent in and has a creased bent at about a quarter inch from the end of the tine. The spoon is about 9 1/4" and has a couple of pepper flake dark spots and one tiny ding in the bowl. Both have gold washed"business ends" with the spoon being a little lighter than the fork. Probably from greater use. Weighing in at a little over 4 ounces Troy between then, and apart from the issues mentioned above, they are in good used condition with some minor use scuffing. There is no mark on the box but The intaglios are a spot on match with the Whiting and Davis intaglio ear rings and broaches I have researched. Having found no other Jewelry boxes like this any where ... morewith the intaglios attached it is hard to say if it was made by Whiting and Davis or the intaglios were bought from them for application to the jewelry box. None the less this is an outstanding vintage jewelry box with 4 intaglios mounted symmetrically around this wonderful vintage gold filigree box with a beveled glass lid. The Intaglios look like they have been colored white as well as having a purple blue green foil highlight. Accenting the intaglios making them look even more beautiful. Inside of box has a faded pink or red crushed velvet interior. Box is not signed anywhere I can find. Using the design of the Intaglios to identify as Whiting and Davis. They are excellent quality glass intaglios. Because of the obvious age and the faded crushed velvet I a guessing this is 24 karat gold plate since it is not tarnished much if at all. If you want it brighter you will have to clean it yourself. The beveled glass on the top appears to be rose colored. 3 3/8" H x 5" W including Intaglios. What makes this purse special is the Sigma Phi Epsilon crest or logo which has been added to the front side of the purse. With a strong magnifying glass.
