Vintage Silver on Copper engraved Platter 15" Diameter with Deer/Quail/Pheasant
Up for bid is a very large Silver on Copper plattter/wall decoration. This has so much going on and so much detail I took as many pictures as I could with 2 different cameras to try to bring the detail out. Just an absolute piece of craftsmanship with so much intricate copper inlays- from the copper bars that go around the border of the platter to the fine leaves in the centerpiece to all the feathers on the partridge/grouse. It does have a makers mark in picture# 5. It is just to the upper left of the main leaf centerpiece. I could only make out a crescent moon but could not distinguish the rest. sterling silver box- pheasant hunting
This is a gorgeous sterling silver box. It has an embossed hunting scence on the front. There is a great tree in the center with a pheasant in the left hand side foreground and a hunting dog on the right side of the tree. In the background coming up behind the dog is a hunter wearing a hat and holding his gun. The entire scence is framed by a raised edge around the box. It is hinged with most of the hinge hidden inside and the inside is gilded in gold. It is approx. 2 1/18" x 1 1/2" and a depth of 1/2" There are some marks on the bottom that I can't read very well. One of them looks like three circles in a triangle shape with a"C" in the top circle and a"S" in the left one and a"R" in the right one. Between the two circles on the bottom between the" S and the R" appear the letters" ... moreLtd" in tiny tiny letters. I think that is what it says, not positive. Then there is a mark with three more shapes in a row the first is oval and says"925" the second is a circle shape that I think has a"circle or the letter o" in it and the third shape a circle with the letter"J" I think. I could not make out the marks 100 percent but this is my best guess at what I think they say. I do not know anything about silver so hopefully you will know what they mean. This was a family owned piece and I do know it came from England years ago. That is the only information a know about it. This antique silver plated relief comes from my private collection. It depicts a most detailed hunting scene of a fox holding a pheasant. This relief is still in very good condition. Some minor wear at the silver plate. It still has its original wooden frame, in dark hunting green laquer, which shows some wear, some pieces of the laquer has come off. It very well may be as there is a little chain attached to the back piece and a very small opening in the pheasants tail which the back piece may have originally been attached to. It has beautiful embroidery that is just like what's found on Chinese rank badges. With metallic and colored threads on a silk ground. The bird on this box has five tail feathers, like a silver pheasant, but I'm not sure if that's what it represents. It is about 6.25" wide, 2.75" tall, and 3.5" deep. There are some condition issues: a little hole in the silk on top(left side) and a little moth nibble not yet a hole; color bleed on the inside lid and a stain in the inside bottom; adhesive sticker residue on the bottom.
