Collectible "LEMON AND LIME" by WARREN DUNCAN Atlantic salmon fly fishing
COLLECTIBLE"LEMON AND LIME" ATLANTIC SALMON FLY TIED BY WARREN DUNCAN. NB, CANADA Warren"Dunc" Duncan(1948-2007) was from St. John. New Brunswick, Canada. Warren had a remarkable talent for commercial fly dressing and was the fastest dresser I had ever seen and in my opinion was also the finest hairwing Atlantic salmon fly dresser that ever lived. In 40 years, I have yet to meet his equal. His flies are perfect examples of neatness and order and I have never heard of any of his flies unraveling or falling apart. Duncan died in 2007 but as long as there are samples of his work to inspire future generations, he will never be forgotten. Owning a sample or two of Duncan’s flies to study and use as a model for your own tying would be of significant importance. Offered for sale is"LEMON AND LIME" a hairwing Atlantic ... moresalmon fly created and tied by Duncan for Atlantic salmon fishing on the Miramichi River(NB. Canada) This particular fly was tied on a size#1½ hook. This fly is from my personal collection and I will supply a letter of authenticity.
FRAMED vintage TOPPY by T.E. Pryce-Tannatt original Atlantic salmon fly
Framed original salmon fly“TOPPY” tied by Dr. Thomas Edwin Pryce-Tannatt 1881-1965“Pryce-Tannatt was a doctor of medicine and the editor of Salmon and Trout Association magazine. In 1912 he changed careers by accepting an appointment as the Inspector of Salmon Fisheries in the board of Agriculture and Fisheries. Where he distinguished himself as an early conservationist and the sponsor of several important pieces of legislation to preserve Salmon and freshwater fisheries. He retired in 1946. Dr. T.E. In this book were all the instructions on how to tie full dress Atlantic salmon flies the old way. Just to

FRAMED vintage 2/0 FULL SAIL by Charles DeFeo collectible Atlantic salmon fly

Cosmopolitan. Argosy. Clues. Detective Action. Knockout. Love Story. The Popular. And Railroad Magazine. As an artist Charles DeFeo was known for his realistic and impressionistic oil and watercolor paintings. But throughout his entire professional career DeFeo was- first and foremost- a passionate fly fisherman and innovative fly tier. In fact. Charles DeFeo developed more techniques and created more salmon-fly patterns and pattern variations than any other tier in the 500-year-history of fly tying. In fact, by popularizing his low, mixed-wing style of tying, enhanced by an uncanny ability to blend colors, he laid a foundation that would determine the ... moredirection of the modern hairwing Atlantic salmon fly. Presented framed is a rare. Full-dressed 2/0 FULL SAIL salmon fly. Created and tied by Charles DeFeo. FULL SAIL is one of the most stunning DeFeo flies in my collection. It features 17 different ingredients. Blending a number of iridescent and translucent natural materials designed to reflect and refract light. Defeo reignited the passion in tying flies creatively that was inspired by Major John Traherne 70 years earlier in the United Kingdom. Although his creations were dressed with natural iridescent feathers, his flies were the precursors of the coming synthetic revolution in fly tying materials as the next generation of fly tiers found it difficult to locate many of DeFeo's authentic components. The dressing for FULL SAIL is as follows: Tag: Flat gold tinsel Tail: Golden pheasant crest and golden pheasant tippets dyed dark orange Body: Raffia dyed yellow Rib: Oval silver tinsel Wing: White bucktail; red dyed polar bear; yellow monga tail; white bucktail; black silver pheasant crest; two dun hackles over top Topping: Golden pheasant crest. Framed original vintage 7/0 BROCKWEIR Atlantic salmon fly by Ernest Crosfield
Framed original 7/0 BROCKWEIR Atlantic salmon fly by Ernest Crosfield Ernest Crosfield was the greatest salmon fly tier of his day and owning any fly tied by him would be the foundation and cornerstone of a significant fly collection. Unfortunately he left no written record of his methods. So I have had to collect information based upon studying the flies I own of his. As an early 20th century fly tier, Crosfield began a trend to simplify the dressings of the opulent Victorian era. He believed in dressing his flies with a low-wing silhouette and not obstructing the barb with a lot of feathers or dubbing so that when a fish struck, the hook would have a good bite. Rather than marry multiple feather fibers to create an intricate wing, Crosfield preferred to clump these feather fibers together- or even clump different types of fibers together- ... moreso that in his opinion, nothing would be hidden. The bodies of his patterns were started above the barb and only two or three turns of hackle were taken at the throat, thereby allowing for his characteristic extremely small, neatly finished heads. For auction is an exceptionally rare and highly valuable BROCKWEIR by Ernest Crosfield. This fly is originally from the wallet of T.E. Pryce-Tannatt(owned by Charles DeFeo) and marked"original Crosfield. 1925. The fly is presented framed and I will provide a copy of the provenance from DeFeo and a letter of authenticity from myself. The BROCKWEIR is Crosfield’s signature pattern that was described and illustrated in Eric Taverner’s book. Salmon Fishing(Lonsdale Library. 1931)
Framed rare 7/0 SALLY by Megan Boyd Atlantic salmon fly
Spectacular 7/0 SALLY Tied by Ms. Megan Boyd For auction is a magnificent SALLY dressed by Megan Boyd on a 7/0 up-eye hook. The fly was part of a group of Boyd flies I purchased from Jamie Maxtone Graham(the dealer in the U.K. who represented Ms Boyd for many years) in 1983. Always portrayed in her unusual style of dress(a man's shirt and tie. Sweater, wool skirt, tweed sport jacket and heavy army-style boots) the eccentric Megan Boyd loved tying flies. Her creations, according to The American Fly Fisher magazine were regarded by connoisseurs as'the Tiffanies of the 20th century. According to an article by Dennis Martin. At 20, she moved into a small red-and-white cottage perched on a hillside in the village of Kintradwell, and she lived there for 53 years. By personal preference, she had no running water, electricity, telephone or ... moretelevision. She cut her own hair in a style the British call an Eaton crop. Her studio was a corrugated iron shed with a rusted red tin roof. She spent 14 to 16 hours a day, six or seven days a week, at her workbench, a kidney-shaped dressing table. But she was dedicated to supplying the fishermen she knew who fished rivers she had learned intimately. SALLY is presented framed and I will supply a letter of authenticity. US film producer Eric Steel is making a film documentary about the life and work of the legendary fly tier Megan Boyd from Kintradwell Brora. What do you think a magnificent fly like this is going to be worth after this major documentary movie on Ms. Megan Boyd debutes.
The Atlantic Salmon Fly The Tyers and Their Art 1st ed. by Judith Dunham MINT
This auction is for the book: The Atlantic Salmon Fly- The Tyers and Their Art. A 1st edition book by Judith Dunham, 137 pages and published in 1991. This is a wonderful book with excellent photographs and stories form the tyers. Dunham's second anthology surpasses her handsome The Art of the Trout Fly in format and text(also price) While falling a little short of the inspired photographic stylings that were the charm of the earlier volume. In fly-tying, recently evolved from a sweet utility into true craft, no patterns demand more skill than the exotic, beautifully intricate, traditional salmon flies. The 23 tyers here, from North America, Europe and Japan, speak about their favorite patterns in various tones of angling rapture, but words, even good yarns, never suffice in fishing. Clayton's photographs of these colorful deceptions, ... moreingeniously displayed, best explain the persisting allure of the gloriously extravagant flies. Copyright 1991 Reed Business Information. Inc. Flytyers. Anglers, and collectors will find much to admire in this collection of essays by 23 renowned practitioners of the art of creating fishing lures primarily from fur and feathers. Atlantic salmon flies differ from most trout flies in that they aren't intended to imitate insects: rather, they are larger, more colorful, glitzier, unspecified representations that attract the"king of game fish" almost by daring to be miniature objets d'art. The color photographs are exquisite, and the essays by flytyers from the United States, Canada, Europe, and Japan are both informational and inspirational. A materials list for tying each fly follows the essays. This is highly recommended for libraries with regional interest or large angling collections. Will Hepfer. SUNY at Buffalo Libs. Two Raised Pillar fly reels & two Atlantic Salmon Flies lot3
The reel on the left in the 1st picture is a Union Hardware Sunnybrook; it will display nicely. But I wouldn't fish with it-it is in only fair mechanical condition: the clicker is weak, and there's a catch in the action when one turns the spool. The second reel is a South Bend Bait Co. St. Joe no. 1170; it has some surface rust(which will clean up, if you are that industrious) but it is in excellent mechanical condition, with a strong clicker in both directions. The flies are size 2 hairwing Silver Doctors. Please study the pictures before bidding, and if you have any questions or want a different views posted, please contact me before bidding.
