Bamboo Tenkara fly rod - Vintage 5 piece 220 cm w/ 2 tips - 3 day auction
Vintage Bamboo Tenkara fly rod- 5 piece. 220 cm(7' 3" with 2 tips, ferrule plugs and bag. Very good condition. Japanese Tenkara or Korean whip style fixed-line rod. Beautifully constructed with a pecan base lacquer finish. Bamboo segments(approx. 20" ea. are straight and true including each of the very fine black lacquered bamboo tip sections with green braided lillians. In terms of modern Tenkara or Keiryu rod ratings I would estimate this as having a flex characteristic of 7:3. Super light in the hand and not tip heavy. I detect a faint click in one of the bamboo ferrules when seated- it is sound and secure, just a little wiggle but I wanted to point this out nevertheless because it is not perfect. I am including with this rod 11 feet of 4.5 Tenkara USA Hi-Vis flurocarbon line and five 5 feet of 6# flurocarbon tippet. I am also including 6 hand tied Amano style flies. The flies are tied with Japanese Super Yamame hooks and have a silk eye and silk body with pheasant feather hackle. I'm selling this rod because I have a Tenkara USA Ayu 2 rod that I prefer. It zooms from 320 cm(10' 5" to 360 cm(11' 9" It is extremely lightweight at 70 gm(2.5oz) It has a very nice collapsed length of only 40.7 cm(16 in) making it a wonderful travel rod. There are 9 sections plus 2 extra sections(one is an extra tip and the other is the section prior to the tip section) There is also a corked tube for storage of the tips and a cloth storage bag(bag shows wear and holes) Overall weight of all sections. Tip case and bag is 11 oz. Longest section is 2 Feet. This does have a makers mark(pictured) I emailed Daniel of Tenkara USA who said that the name is likely Higashi but did not have any addition information on this maker. The tips also look like they may be marked(please see last photo) Pieces all look to be in very good used condition although three of the sections have a small crack at the open end of the section they don’t appear to be very long but ... moresince the outside portion has an outer wrapping you can only look inside the tube to view this. When the sections are assembled these areas are areas where the other tube is inserted so there is double strength at these points so it does not seems to effect stability and does not wobble. Sections are straight and not warped. Please note that I know nothing about fly fishing but will try and answer your questions as best as possible. Gently used(my personal) Nissin Airstage 4.1m 5:5 Hiromichi Fuji designed Tenkara rod. This is a highly desirable Level Line rod. Accurate and petite, the balance is light in the hand and overall the rod is light as well. Good condition, no hook strikes, never used bead head flys or large fish stressed, just used for what it was designed for. Awesome Tenkara rod. It has caught Iwana, Brook, Brown, Rainbow, Apache and Cutbows, just listen to this rod, it knows what to do. I used 3.5 Sansui or TenkaraUSA premium line with it 1m longer than the rod for good reach, 75m 6x tippet. With the rod comes an extra tip which I got when I ordered the rod, you should not need it, I didn't as the rod is sturdy.

Antique Japanese Tenkara Bamboo Fishing Pole Set
This Beautiful Tenkara Bamboo pole set predates 1945 and was brought home at the end of WWII by a young Lt. B24 pilot as a souvenier from then surendered Japan. The pole set after a couple years was packed away and not seen the light of day until recently whe his footlocker was opened for the first time in 60 years. This is a museum quality example of a finely hand crafted antique Tenkara pole set. The grey cloth pouch is wool and carrying case is heavy paper on the inside and woven grass or reed exterior. All is very nicely had stitched together. All the poles are wrapped with silk thread and painted over with something called Urushi lacquer. A very precious protective coating. I've been following Chouinard since he was making Lost Arrow pitons, skyhooks, and other extreme rock climbing gear- in the 60's. Now we're a little older and tending towards more genteel pursuits, such as fly fishing. As he relates several times in this book, his climbing adventures have often taken him to the"back of beyond" where there have been almost no sport fisherman to EVER wet a line in the rivers and lakes he passed while traveling to and from the climbing area. As Chouinard ... morehas aged, he's evidently become more interested in the fishing opportunities than the climbing in remote areas. Most of the(many) gorgeous photos in this book were taken in Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming, since one of the co-authors, Craig Mathews, is the owner/operator of Blue Ribbon Flies, a fly fishing shop and guide service in West Yellowstone, MT. The authors spend some amount of time speaking of presentation of your fly at rather short range, often surprisingly near the bank of both rivers and flat water. One of the weirdest"techniques" presented in this book is the idea of"THROWING YOUR ROD! Yeah, you're not fishing with a rod and reel with a fancy drag system in a tenkara rod setup! It's very like your basic cane pole- the rod, 9-12 feet long(bamboo, fiberglass, graphite, whatever) a 12 to 20 foot line, a 1 to 9 foot leader, and one or more flies. That's it! Two Tenkara fly fishing rods. 60's type fiberglass with black enamel finish, one rod is 9.0 ft. light weight, the second rod is 12.0 ft. medium weight, both rods come with pre-set up and spooled fly line- just snap the line on at the tip top and your ready to fish. both rods come in one partitioned bag and a large plastic storage tube. A very unique pair of fly fishing rods, they do not need a reel. I didn't get anything for free. Had to buy everything I own, but I need to sell off some of my stuff. Dragontail tenkara rod
Hello. Up for sale is a lightly used Tenkara rod. It is in perfect condition. Looks like it just came from the factory. Even the handle is still in almost perfect condition, I bought New from Dragontail Tenkara, it comes with a protective tube. I added a line holder as you can see in the picture, it is very practical when you are moving between spots, the model is the TATSU 360, is a 6:4 with a strong backbone. It is about 12 feet in lenght, fully extended, and 22" when fully collapsed, I had so much fun with this rod(by the way it was my firts experience with tenkara, I think I did very good) and I caught a lot of trout too. Some smallmouth bass and the popular blueguill(bream) as well fell under my tenkara rod. I would say it is the perfect entry model for someone that want to learn or experience this magnificient art of Japanese fly ... morefishing without spending hundreds of dollars in top of the line tenkara rod.
