Rare Antique Handmade Birchbark Wooden Fishing Creel
For sale we have an exceptional example of a Very Early Handmade Birch Fishing Creel. This piece is made entirely out of birch bark branches cut to size and is primitively nailed together. You can still see some of the actual white birch bark on the lid and several of the side pieces. Notice the round twig that is the outer edge of the hole on the top.awesome! The inside has a piece of what appears to be bamboo around the inner lid edge. It has obviously had several repairs but this is a very old piece of fishing gear possibly from the mid to late 19th century. I have never seen anything like it! It measures 10.5" tall. 15" long and 11" wide. This is an extremely rare piece.

It has been used in the past and has normal wear to the wicker in the forms of scuffs and it could use a cleaning(but it does not smell bad) It is sturdy but does need a new closure. Right now there is a wire loop but nothing to pass through the loop. It measures 13 1/2 inches wide. 7 inches deep and 9 inches high. It has a canvas strap or sling, which is in great condition. Vintage Aluminum Fishing Creel
This auction features a vintage"Aluminum" Fishing Creel. This creel is all aluminum body. With a brass catch and release button. The spring catch and rivets are steel. Approxamate dimensions are: 12 1/2" long- 7" high- 5 1/2" wide. This creel is in very good condition. With all riveted joints. No breaks or repairs, and very well made. There are no markings. Or indication of maker, or manufacturer, except for the"Star" pattern of holes on the front panel.

Wicker Creel - Made in Japan
This item is an older Japanese wicker and leather fishing creel. As is. It makes a great display/decor piece. With a little repair it could be returned to a functional fishing creel. The wicker is about 95% a few are broken. The leather is dry-rotted on the buckle strap(it's broken) and the carry strap is pulled away. Both these issues are shown in the photos.

This is a Vintage George Lawrence Co. Fishing Creel. It is made out of leather and wicker and is in great condition for its age. It is approx. 14" X 11" X 9" and has a leather buckle closure with front pocket that snaps shut(both the buckle and the snaps work and are in good condition) The handle strap is broken(see photo#2 and#10) and there is a one inch tear in the leather on the back(see photo#11) there is also no shoulder strap.The metal name plate on the front says"The George Lawrence Co. EXCELLENT LEATHERED SPLIT BAMBOO BASKET POCKETED CREEL
Here's an excellent condition clean leathered split Bamboo basket creel with front pocket. The basket is in great shape with no breakage. This is a very unusual basket- it's extremely strong and according to a catalog listing I found is made of split Bamboo. It's much heavier duty than the normal split willow creel and I'm sure it's nearly indestructable. I've seen maybe 6 of these over the years and have never seen one with any basket breakage. The leather is very thick cow hide and is all in nice shape as well with no cracking or chipping. The basket is what we would normally describe as a low boy style. These were made in the mid to late 40's and I'm including a scan of the 1948 catalog page I found them in. It includes a nice tooled cow hide shoulder strap. It's about 16 1/2 inches wide and has a curved ... moreback to fit the hip. Would make a fine display piece or a fine creel to use. Rare creel for the collector. I've been collecting creels for years and just recently realized I'm totally out of space to display them. I counted them a couple of weeks ago and find that I have over 400 of them. I guess I've got to move a few of them on down the road so my wife and I will have enough space to move around in the house a little. Of course I'm exagerating a bit but you can imagine how much space that many creels takes up. I'll list a few creels today and more periodically as my schedule permits. I have for sale a vintage Fishing Creel. I have found similar examples of this creel sold by Horrocks Ibbotson Co. I believe it was made in Hong Kong. Japan. It is in used but still very good usable or decorative condition with no breaks in the weaving that I can see. The fish shape latch is complete with some rusting on the metal. The creel measures 14" across at the base and 9 3/4" across the top. All in all a very well made fishing creel. If anyone has anymore information on this basket I would be glad to add it to the description. I use USPS Priority Mail in the USA so the cost to ship will be a flat rate $6.00. Solid& sturdy. The basket closure strap is a fish head& body. The head has'PAT 66289' on it. There are a few broken strands/connectors. That hold the lid on to its rim, see pictures. Also a few broken strands/connectors. On the basket part, holding the basket to the rim. The 2 leather straps holding the lid to the basket are good. The basket weveing is very tight and strong. It comes with leather straps and metal closer works well. Tail is off fish body but is included. As is all the tackle pictured. This auction is for a fine early George Lawrence Split Willow Wicker Tillamook creel. Trimmed with decorative hand tooled leather. The design is a square rope pattern. The basket measures 15” across base. 9” tall at rear, slanted bottom is 8” deep at back and 6" deep at the front, straight back, forward tapering hinged opening lid with side slot, fish measure stamped to rear hinge. George Lawrence metal plaque is attached to front external tackle wallet/pocket with stud fastening. There are small slits on each side of the pocket to assist with the snap closures. This auction features a Vintage Wicker with Leather trim Fishing Creel. I don't know the age of this basket. Looks to be fairly old to me. The basket is primarily wicker with leather trim and a canvas shoulder strap. The shoulder strap does not connect to one side, bit is present. The leather does have some dark marks and is cracked in several places. Please check out the photos. The buckle over the top will not hold since leather can been cut short. The top wants to stay open but I think can be trained to stay closed again. The handle has significant wear and the leather has worn off in spots. There's 2 turning closures on the main bag, 2 snap pockets in front, another on the side, also a zipper compartment in the front. There's a removable strap that has some light fading on it. Condition is excellent, there's evidence of use but its been well cared for. The only issue is one of the grommets from one of the turning snaps has come loose(see pics for details) It's an easy fix for its next owner. Antique fishing creel tightly woven willow
Attractive antique fishing creel owned by my father and dating to late 1920's early l930's as far as I can determine. It appears to be tightly woven willow and is light tan in color with some fading. The strap is leather and canvas fabric. It has a leather and metal latch which has its tip portion reglued. Size approximately 9 inches high at back x 7 inches in front. Basket width approx. 14 inches and depth is 5 inches. The basket is in nice condition with minimal defects to the willow mostly where the lid attaches to basket(some repair) Kept in a clean, smoke free home and not exposed to dirt. Up for auction is a very old fishing creel. There is a anchor mark on the brass buckle and something stamped into the strap but I can't read it. It is 6.5" tall and 9" wide at the base. Leather is in very good condition. There is on break in the wicker on the back going around the frame. Most of the brass and rivets are greening or oxidizing. Beautiful piece for use or display.

Vintage McMonies/MacMonies Model 50 Creel
This creel belonged to my grandfather. Who was an avid fly fisherman. It would date from the 20s or 30s, but I can't seem to find much info specific to this model. The creel is a model 50, size 3; the bottom is 14 in. across and 5 1/2 in deep, the lid is 11 1/2 in across and 7 in. deep. The basket is 8 3/4 in. deep and the creel including the lid in 9 1/2 in. tall. The metal tag is intact with McMonie misspelled. Apparently the company received a large batch of tags with the typo, and rather than reorder decided to just use them. There is a remnant of a green paper tag on the bottom. The original strap is attached, but is worn and cracked. The rest of the leather appears to be in pretty good shape. Saw no faults in the weave, but took plenty of pictures, so judge for yourself. Rarely up for sale, these creels are considered to be some ... moreof the most beautiful and desirable of all leathered creels, noted for the quality of craftsmanship in their work. Vintage Native Canadian Birchbark Vine Carved Fishing Trout Creel
I've had this vintage creel over 20 years. Having bought it in Ontario during a fishing trip. The body of the creel is made of double layers of birch bark with the white bark side to the interior. It measures 10 inches tall by 12 inches wide at its tapered base. It is laced with thin strips of what appears to be either light colored deer or moose hide and has hinges, a hanging loop on the back, and a strap for the peg that closes the latch made of what appears to be a darker dyed deer hide. The top has a center hole cut for inserting the caught fish. This great birch bark creel has never been used for fishing, so it is still as clean as can be both inside and out. Here is a very unusual find from a recent estate sale. This is an Abercrombie and Fitch. Made in Austria, Fishing Creel. This creel appears to be new"old stock" As the tag is still on the creel and it is in perfect condition. As with all my auction. Unusual wicker fishing creel with green wooden lid.

Vintage Woven fishing Basket Creel Primitive Folk Art Country Cabin decor
This is a thrift store find-not sure of the age or where it came from. But it looks like an old fishing basket or fishing creel. It has a woven handle, hinged flap and a string where it was supposed to"lock" over something that isn't there anymore. Measures 14" tall to handle x 13" wide x a little over 8" deep across the bottom. It is in pretty good condition- has some dark spots on the front flap and a few strips are broken in two, and of course some discoloration you would expect from age. I'm including several close ups so you can see the condition. I will ship internationally. I just ask that you contact me first to discuss shipping costs. Notice!
