The creel is not maker marked but judging from the style. Materials and craftsmanship it most likely dates to the last quarter of the 19th century to the first quarter of the 20th century. The creel features a wonderful large body that can best be described as ½ oval shaped. The creel is entirely hand made and the condition is very nice and especially so when considering the material and the age. The lid is missing one of it's hinges and moves rather tightly on the remaining one. There are three or four areas where there are minor breaks, most are shown in close-up below. The straps are no longer with the creel. The creel is also quite large measuring app. 11" in height be 10" in depth and 12" in app. width. We have included images below of all the sides plus the top and bottom so you can see first hand how truly unusual the design is. Never used woven wood fish creel basket with thick leather shoulder straps and brass and stainless steel hardware in excellent condition. Measures 12 3/8 inches long by 6 1/2 inches wide by 71/2 inches deep. It has 2 dark brown stripes of weaving around its sides. This is a beautiful vintage unmarked split willow creel with leather trim and a rich patina- has original front leather closure and rear carry handle. Made in Japan for the American market- circa 1920/1930. Approximately 9" tall with 15" wide base. Conditions is Very Good with very little basket damage and light to moderate leather wear. Up for Auction is a wonderful Estate Sale Find. I bought this for my grandson and then found out he was more into Space Ships at this time! This is a wonderful Vintage Willow Fishing Creel with real leather trim. It was obviously used at one time but is still in great condition. There are no holes in the wicker that I could see. I tried to take photos from all angles so you could see for yourself. The leather is in good condition. A few worn spots but no breaks in the leather, Buckle works fine. Few water spots on the one front side. but this was used to fish in streams. I was going to post the fish separately. But they go so perfectly with this creel, Perfect scale, I just couldn't separate them. They have been together a long time according to the previous owners daughter. I am guessing they are made out of fiberglass. they are very ... morelightweight. They can be removed easily if you so desire. they are attached via the hanger that you would attach the real fish you caught with. They appear to be hand painted and coated with a protective clear coating. Glass eyes. Great detail.hopefully you can see it in the photos on zoom. There are no nicks or chips on the fins and tails. They are really wonderful pieces of ART. The creel measures approx. 8 1/2" high by 14 1/2" wide(at the widest point of base) The trout are 8 1/4" 10 1/4" and 10 1/2" approximately. This auction is for a Pre-owned but never used or displayed 1996 Fly-Fishing Wicker Creel or Fishing Basket. This wicker basket is in perfect condition with leather trim and a 47 1/2" adjustable strap. The closure is a twist lock. It has a drop slot in the upper right hand corner. The basket is 9 1/2" long. 6 1/2" deep and 5 1/4" high. It has no broken wicker. The strap and lock are also in excellent shape. It has a flat back and oval body( sides and front) I have enclosed pictures of all angles including the bottom, to show the condition. This was initially purchased as a decorative item, but our decorating for a family room took a different direction before we used this. It has been stored in a box in a closet since 1996. It was never used for fishing so it has no odor or fishing residue. This Creel also comes with a ... moredecorative fish that I purchased, that you may choose to use as a decoration.or not. The fish is 6 1/2" long, 1 1/2" high and 1/2" wide. It will be packed in bubble wrap and placed in the creel. This would make a great addition to a Cabin or Outdoor sports related room. This is a good usable item but it would best serve as a fishing lodge décor item. The creel measures approximately 14-1/2” across the bottom. 6” wide at base and 8” tall at the back. The condition of the creel is very good to near excellent. It shows a rich patina and has only one strand of willow that has broken. The thin leather straps that latch the lid to the creel and the straps that hold the shoulder strap on are old. Have some breakage and are bridle. This would not be expensive to replace if one so desired but it would be better off left as authentic to the item. It has several small holes or gaps in the wicker and needs some weave work in certain places(see pics) Also the top has been temporarily attached with leather as it was, but needs help. This is a vintage fishing kreel that belonged to my father. Probably from around the 1950's? Really old, has been done in the basement forever. Possibly had been his father's first. Made like a woven basket. Shows some wear such as warping, leather straps worn, and dust. A long time ago the straps were reinforced with string so the lid would still work, but it needs some TLC. Stands 6" tall by about 5 1/2" deep. 8 1/2" wide at the top, and 9" wide at bottom. I just figured out that the lid has a sliding stick that goes into a loop when the lid is closed. To hold it shut.

Vintage Leather Reinforced Wicker Trout Fishing Creel made in British Hong Kong
Up for bids is a very nice vintage leather reinforced wicker trout fishing creel as pictured made in British Hong Kong. The creel stands 9" high in the back at the top of the lid and tapers to 7 1/2" in the front at the top of the lid. It measures 14" long by 6" wide across the bottom. The very fine thread the looped handle on the top back was sewed together with has deteriorated with age exposing the wicker on the inside as seen in the last two pictures. This would probably be an easy fix for someone who works with leather. Otherwise the creel is in very nice condition with just light wear to the leather.
