NICE CLEAN EARLY BIG RIVET TOOLED LEATHER SPLIT WILLOW BASKET CREEL
Here's a nice clean condition Big Rivet tooled leather split willow basket creel. These are early 1900-1920 creels I believe to be made in San Francisco perhaps by Ellery Arms. I have five or six of these and have seen a number of others but never a marked one. The distinguishing characteristics of these are the large 9/16 inch diameter brass rivets used to mount the straps& buckle. The leather sandwich used on the handle and the lightly stamped tooling used as decoration. I have similiar creels marked Ellery Arms but have not seen one of these marked. The basket on this one hads only minor breakage and is nice and clean. The leather is very nice and while showing a little wear here and there is still nice and flexible. It's bound with tooled cow hide leather and comes with a nice padded cow hide leather shoulder strap with matching ... moretooling. It's 13 inches wide at the widest point with a flat back. Fine example of a scarce creel for the collector. I've been collecting creels for years and just recently realized I'm totally out of space to display them. I counted them a couple of weeks ago and find that I have over 400 of them. I guess I've got to move a few of them on down the road so my wife and I will have enough space to move around in the house a little. Of course I'm exagerating a bit but you can imagine how much space that many creels takes up. I'll list a few creels today and more periodically as my schedule permits. Antique Trout Fly Fishing Wicker Creel w/ Metal& Leather Fish Latch& Shoulder Strap Best age guess on this would be mid-1930’s– mid- 1950’s. This vintage trout fishing creel is made of wicker. It stands about 8 ½” tall x 13” wide at the bottom and 10” wide at the top x 5 ½” front to back. Lid has an opening for fish. Opening measures about 1 ¾” wide x 2 ¼” The creel latch is a decorative. Unique fish design consisting of a head, middle and tail made of metal(magnetic) joined by leather. The ring turn buckle, backed by a leather multi-pointed disc, is non-magnetic and might be brass. The latch is fully functional. The wicker is near perfect although old and likely brittle. The lid hinge which was also wicker has been repaired with some sort of strong twine. This creel also comes with it’s original leather and cloth ... moreshoulder strap. The leather is still somewhat flexible and the cloth strap shows little wear or damage. All in all, this is a highly desirable piece of fishing history from a by-gone era. A super item to hang in your fishing lodge or man-cave! This vintage creel is made of wicker and leather. It looks like it has never been used for fishing. It measures about 10" from bottom to top of handle) x 14 1/2" long) x 6" wide) It has a looped handle on the back that is leather(it has no cracks or breaks) There is no shoulder strap. It is in excellent shape, with no holes, tears or missing parts. there is a very little wear on the left corner leather patch right at the tip of the corner(see photo) The measuring area printed on the top is visible and"Made in British Hong Kong" is right below this area. This vintage creel measures 11 inches across the top. About 7 inches deep and about 8 1/2 inches tall. The latch on the front is missing and the top is attached only with string on one side- the strap is not attached either but will come with the creel. The basket is still in good condition- I do not see any breaks or damage- only some very light splatters of dark green paint here and there- it is hardly visible- I only noticed it when looking up close for any damage. Overall, this is a great vintage creel!

Vintage wicker woven fishing creel. Beautiful. Old creel is probably from the 1950's. It is in good, used condition but has not been cleaned so it is dusty and the leather needs cleaning and conditioning. Complete, original shoulder strap is in good shape. Decorative leather and metal fish latch is on the front and closes nicely. The only defect to mention is that the handle ends are unraveling and will need slight repair. Please check out the photos. NICE CLEAN PETERS LEATHERED SPLIT WILLOW BASKET CREEL (RARE)
E.P. Peters was an important early Portland. Oregon creel maker. He built creels and other fine leather products in Portland from the mid teens to the early 1930's. He was the first to use buck skin strips instead of linen thread to stitch the leather onto creels and the first one to put pockets on creels to store tackle in. He did quite a bit of experimentation with pocket designs and built creels with one, two and even three pockets on them. In the late 20's he went to work for McMonies and built many of the early McMonies creels including the first zipper top McMonies creels. Mr. Peters creels are among the rarest of the Oregon creel maker's creels. This one is a fairly early example and also fairly plain as Peters creels go with linen stitching and no pocket. The basket is in nice shape with only a little breakage on the bottom ... moreboard. It is 16 inches wide at it's widest point. The leather is showing some wear here and there but it's all there and is still soft and flexible. Comes with a complete cow hide leather shoulder strap. A nice example of Mr. Peter's work and a RARE item for the creel collector. I've been collecting creels for years and just recently realized I'm totally out of space to display them. I counted them a couple of weeks ago and find that I have over 400 of them. I guess I've got to move a few of them on down the road so my wife and I will have enough space to move around in the house a little. Of course I'm exagerating a bit but you can imagine how much space that many creels takes up. I'll list a few creels today and more periodically as my schedule permits. NICE CLEAN EARLY 1920'S LEATHERED SPLIT WILLOW BASKET CREEL
Here's a nice clean early leathered split willow basket creel. This is not marked but is very much like a marked Farlow creel I have in my collection. It's leathered with nice thick cow hide leather. The basket has some breakage on the board on the bottom of the creel but no breakage elsewhere. It comes with a highly tooled cow hide leather shoulder strap. This was probably made in the early 20's and has a nice patina. The basket is a little over 15 inches at it's widest point. Would make a fine display item for someone's collection. I've been collecting creels for years and just recently realized I'm totally out of space to display them. I counted them a couple of weeks ago and find that I have about 500 of them. Old wicker Creel for Fly fishing-1930's w/Leather/canvas shoulder-strap
Nice old creel in very good shape for being used-the previous owner put a 6" rule on the top-to make sure his or her Brook Trout were legal. At that time. Has a little damage where the previous owner tied some fly rod line on it to make sure it was secure. Nice creel probably for collecting or decorating. I think the latch is German Silver-not sure. 14" across the bottom x 6" high in front and 8" high in the back-tapered to the lid that is 11" across x 6" wide- the lid is tapered 1-1/2" from top edge to the front edge. 5" across the bottom to front edge.

Rare Antique Wicker Footed Fishing Creel We are not exactly sure how old this basket is. But we were told it is probably Victorian and from England. The condition of the creel is very good. The lid is attached to wicker hinges, which are intact. There is a leather strap and a small buckle to close it. The leather is thin and a bit fragile now. The metal buckle a bit rusty, but I made no attempt to clean it and rather left it untouched. The strap/buckle are still intact and usable. The wooden frame of the basket has kept its original shape. Vintage Tightly Woven Fishing Creel Basket Leather Front Pocket & Straps
This is a cool old fishing creel basket. Basket is tightly woven with multiple wear spots and scratches but no holes. All of the leather trim. Straps and front pocket are dry with scratches and marred areas. There are places on the front straps where the stitches are missing but the straps are not loose. The buckle on the lid is missing. Vintage Large WICKER FISHING CREEL with Good Leather No Holes GREAT CONDITION
This is a vintage. Wicker fishing creel with leather highlights. The creel is large, it is about 9" tall and about 14" long. There are no big holes in the wicker, just one tiny one on the back. The single handle is off on the center back, it is inside the creel and there is no shoulder strap. It looks like there used to be a large pouch on the front of the creel, there are 4 leather squares holding nothing, so it is a guess that it might have been a pouch. The buckle is good but the strap to hold the creel lid closed is only half there. There is also some broken wicker around the fish hole on the top, 9 photos available. The hinge is good and the leather is firmly attached to the wicker. The missing leather is fairly easy to replace and the basket and remaining leather is sturdy and it has a nice aged look. This wonderful rare creel was made in the 1920's here in Portland. Oregon. I have two of these one is my grandfathers and this one is my great uncles. This is the more detailed one. The experts say this is a $3,000.00 creel. Extra fancy. Also the name of the company was McMonies- the story goes they ordered some metal tags and they were misspelled. Beautiful old creel is as found. The leather strap does not want to reach the lock, the bottom had something applied to seal, a pice or wood inside at the hinge opening is split, some detached leather and wear, the photos really tell it all, they are part of the description.
