It came from the same region of Persia where famous. Fine Persian rugs are known to come from. Also known as the Kashmir region. Fly whisks are still as common as rugs are over there. Because there is one in every room. However. Only only the wealthier had Silver fly whisks hand crafted of this quality and prestige! Often. They were made especially to be given as gifts, later to be handed down as heirlooms. Most handles are smooth and slender. Making them slippery with sweaty hands. This one is different. It's beautiful flowers with ribbons design has a sure grip every time. The thick blonde Yak hair(that you can see& touch) is 15" long. The hair extends and ... moredisappears into the Silver handle. This handle is 8" long and I believe is clamped directly to the hair& tail bone. The tail bone protrudes about 5" from the handle and you can feel the different bone segments with your fingers under the hair. You could possibly find a wood base or some gathering cloth also under the handle if you take it apart. Gasp! Don't do that! I'm just saying that I'm not sure what else is inside the handle besides hair& bone. Total length is 23" from bottom of handle to tip of hair. I was told it has some historical value because it once belonged to decedents of the Ginghis Khan family. I acquired it almost 30 years ago from an International Postal Inspector's widow. She was having a living estate sale. Parting with many unbelievable treasures. She said her late husband had worked all over the world and he was constantly mailing her all kinds of antiquities and unusual artworks from countless countries.
