HANDMADE OLD FISH GAFF ANTIQUE WOOD HANDLE & METAL HOOK NAUTICAL UNIQUE
This unique antique Hand Gaff is about 12 3/4" long. The old hook is quite large about 2 3/4" wide by approx. the same inches long to the metal band that attaches it to the wood. The hook looks hand made as it is set into the wood handle with a metal ring over the top of it. The hook is very sharp and is protected by a heavy rubber hose that is also attached to the wood handle with cut out metal and small nails. It appears there could have been a rope attached at the end of the handle but now it has 2" wide black electric type tape wrapped around at the bottom. This auction is for an old and very unusual mechanical fishing gaff. It is in working condition. I have shown the gaff in both the set and unset position in the photos. This one is really different than those commonly seen. The gaff is closed when the long handle is squeezed. The length is 19 1/2" long when closed. It is not marked anywhere that I can see and the condityion is as seen with normal signs of age and use including loss of the plating and corrosion. This gaff or gig would make an excellent decorator item or collectible and also goes great with any collection of ice fishing spear. Fishing lure, rod, reel or fish decoy. Having recently received instructions from the vendors solicitors to totally clear and sanitise a property prior to it being placed on the market. We have complied with their requests and have completed the task. The house, an older property, contained all the‘residual kelter’ of extremely long habitation and some items of minor value were recovered. The real antiquated, vintage and collectable pieces were found in both of the two outside sheds. A multitude of items, some of indeterminate age and use, had lain undisturbed and to all intents and purposes apparently totally forgotten since the winter of 2010. It appeared that the deceased had declined from making a will or any other written indications as to the disposal of his chattels and more importantly his property.
