Antique Willcox Gibbs industrial sewing machine, Restored
This is a antique 1902 Willcox Gibbs industrial sewing machine Ser. No. A733982 that I have restored. All old paint was removed and parts cleaned then inspected and found in good condition. I painted it black and after new decals where put on. Clear paint was sprayed on to seal and protect the new decals. The machine sews a good stitch and works easy. All nickel plated parts where polished. It has some pitting on the cloth that I clean and polished over. it looks good and works fine. Question welcome.

Antique Willcox and Gibbs Sewing Machine with cabinet and stand. This is a rare chain stitch machine that does not require a bobbin. Three drawers. Please see condition description. Nice antique Willcox-Gibbs brand cast iron sewing machine made in the USA
For sale this great antique Willcox-Gibbs cast iron sewing machine made in the USA. This machine is fastened to a solid wooden board base about 14 inches by 10 inches. And about 1 inch thick. It has a side mounted electric Continental Motor uses 110 volts 4.0 amps, and is marked as being model#68. The body of this machine is a round wheel shape, and the motor is connected to a 3 plug socket. Black painted with gold leaf filigree detailing. Machine is about 10 inches long, 6 inches wide, and 9 inches tall. This machine is patented in the USA on March 28, 1882, April 17, 1883, November 22, 1887, February 12,19,26 of 1889, and August 28,1894. Also patented in Great Britain and France. Machine is in good to very good overall condition, showing a fair amount of paint wear, chipping from long usage, handling, and storage. This lacks a double plug cord to actually test the machine so it is being sold in as found condition as described. There is a gold medallion attached to the frontside of the machine base. Schmetz discontinued manufacturing needles that fit the Willcox& Gibbs chain stitch sewing machine. These Schmetz needles have the groove all the way up the shaft as required for the machine to slide over the pin in the needle bar. It will fit the older glass tension machine. The automatic and the later electric chain stitch machines. Mirror smooth Schmetz needles glide through fabric and are superior to the original Willcox& Gibbs needles with a dull finish that does not penetrate all fabrics smoothly. Over the years I have used both original and Schmetz needles in my Willcox& Gibbs machines and discovered the problem of using dull finish needles. Especially on some fabrics and layers. You just do not see this machine in any kind of real good condition any more and so complete! This machine clearly states on the sewing plate, made for the Western Electric Company. I have sold a number of Wilcox and Gibbs machine before and have never seen this one. I have a copy of a Wilcox and Gibbs manual that will come with it telling you how the machine works. There manual says their offices were in New York and London England. We have been told that the Willcox and Gibbs was probably the most successful of the chain-stitching ... moresewing machines. The"Automatic" was produced continuously in unchanged form from 1876 to c.1950. Located in New York City, the company began production in 1858. The company was founded by James Gibbs, and James Willcox. These machines used a single thread to form chain-stitch seams so there is NO bobbin needed. The machines were easy to use and quieter than the lockstitch machines; they were also much less expensive. If you collect the old sewing machines or maybe even want to sew on it this is your chance to get one of the great old ones. This will also be a great display piece in your home to talk to your friends about that they do not have. This machine also will come with a COPY of the sewing machine manual which you see in the pictures; this machine did not come with one. You usually do not see the boxes anymore for these machines but this one is in pretty good shape and still nice and sturdy, minus some faded color. The handle that tightens the motor stand to the machine is very hard to tighten and I had to use a pair of pliers to get it to stay tight. This is a beautiful Antique 1876 Willcox Gibbs sewing machine. Ser. No. A277831 that I have restored. All old paint was removed and repainted with black paint and after new decals where put on it was sprayed with clear to seal and protect the new decals. All parts where cleaned and inspected and found in very good condition. The nickel plated parts where polished. It sews a good stitch and works easy. This 1890c Wilcox and Gibbs Hand Crank Sewing Machine is in good condition and was manufactured in New York. This is the export version of the W&G. The machine was made in New York and shipped to England where the wooden base and hand crank were added. Only the British version of this machine was fitted with a hand crank. This basic design was used during and after the Civil War. This machine is a fully functional chain stitch machine. Included ar e the wide and narrow hemmers. Seam guide, 23 extra needles(one more in the machine) and a wrench tool. There is also 6 pages of hand typed instructions for using the machine. The owner had it serviced. Their is a service tag hanging from the crank handle. Also another paper one dated 1967 from a place in London. The owner moved to the states in 1974. This machined has been stored ever since ... morein her garage. The only number I can read on the machine is under the foot plate. 002085. Most of the writing on the foot plate is worn off. I can read a few words. Paris. May, July, chain, Will. And then some partials. Lndon for London and the N for New York plus a few others. The case is in rough condition but together. It is 14x12x9.5. The base on machine is 12.5x8x1 in good condition. Has 4 rubber pads and a thumb screw that holds the machine on. I cannot turn this by hand. The paint and gold embossing is in good condition. The round gold emblem reads- Wilcox& Gibbs Sewing Mach. Co. New York- Deposee. This is a wonderful piece. Would be great for any collection. Low starting bid with no reserve. God Luck. Old/Antique/Vintage-Iron- WILLCOX and GIBBS S. M. CO. Sewing Machine with Westinghouse electric motor in unrestored original condition. Very few cracks. Chips and nicks but no dents. Paint is good overall condtion but paint is rubbed out at the Willcox name decoration. Petal has small chips and nicks from normal use. Cords still functions but is somewhat dried out and probably should be replaced. Sewing machine still works good and is complete but could use some general maintenance. Wetinghouse motor still runs strong and is in total control from it's petal, operating smoothly and quietly. The carrying case is sturdy and strong and still looks great. The material outside is in great shape for it's age but inside has a portion of materal rubbed out by the motor being taken in and out. Antique hand crank Willcox Gibbs sewing machine, Restored.
This is a very beautiful Restored hand crank Willcox Gibbs sewing machine Ser. No. A733982. I have taken the machine apart and cleaned all parts. Inspected them and found them in very good condition. All old paint was removed and repainted with black and after new decals where put on it was sprayed with clear paint to seal and protect the new decals. The machine is mounted on a solid wood board with a hand crank that turns very easy and sews a good stitch. All nickel plated parts where polished. I have add new felt pads to the bottom to protect the table tops.This machine is in great condition and would be a good one to add to your collection. Question welcome.
