PENN Spinfisher First Model 700 Mint Condition Circa 1961 This is the first model of the Penn Spinfisher number 700 second version. The reel was introduced in April of 1961 with a solid crank handle. The first version did not have a counter balance weight in the rotating cup. Very few of the first version were manufactured. The second version has a steel plate held in place by one screw that served as a balance. Both first and second versions of the 700 were only produced in 1961. This reel appears to be in mint condition. The reel has the factory green color. The reel may have been repainted. But professionally done. The front knob is white and the crank knob is more of an ivory color. The reel was found in the William"Bill" Samish reel collection. Mr. Samish was an expert in reel and brass locomotive restoration. This reel may ... morebe one of his last works before his death. This is a vintage PENN#710 Spinfisher spinning reel. Sometines called a"Greenie" with the green enamal finish. This one includes the reel. The original box, the wrapping paper, the instruction and parts booklet, tube of lube and some spare parts.The gear ratio is 3.6 to 1. This reel is in super condition and I would doubt it was used more than once. Just been in the box all these years. Everything is close to perfect. Only scuffing is on the base where it attaches to the rod. Working fine and operating very smoothly. Even has a bag of replacement drag washers and a wrench. My guess it that it is from the mid 1960s. The instruction sheet has a Zip Code on it. So it is after 1963, but the box does not have a Zip Code on it, so it is prior to 1963. This reel was taken apart because the bail springs had some fine sand and corrosion buildup. The reel has all its parts and is fully functional. Springs have been cleaned. But may want to replace. They look to be okay. Some slight corrosion on bottom of reel foot, otherwise has all of its green fishing. A nice collectible or fishable reel when assembled. Classic& outstanding quality. PENN"SPINFISHER" SPINNING ROD, originally a Model No.1712 of 7' OAL, now shortened by about a foot and measuring just 6' OAL(72" with refurbished guide wraps& a new tip. Heavy duty PENN Spinfisher Rod is composed of black fiberglass with six(6) guides on double-end feet, plus both fore& aft grips of EVA Foam, with a PENN marked, black poly reel seat having twin, SS-clad foot positions and screw type locking ring on lower side for securing your Salt Water spinning reel in place. Exterior finish is clear coated over the PENN proprietary, black fiberglass blank, with HD butt section of the Rod running through foam fore grip& poly reel seat and on into the EVA foam aft grip for extreme strength of course. Above the fore grip on this modified PENN Rod exterior is typical PENN ... morelogo/ decal reading: PENN" Rods of Champions" of course, and above that, but below the first& largest of the ceramic ring guide is"PENN Spinfisher" in large sized, gold lettering of course, plus the original model number& factory data specific to the Rod in it's original configuration.
