Magnificent Museum Quality John Landman Mortised Fly Rod, circa 1890
A beautiful 7’11” 3/2 fly rod made by John Landman for“Von Lengerke& Detmond. N.Y. as faintly stamped on the butt cap. All sections are 32” long. The complete rod weighs weigh a sweet 2.8 oz. It assembles full length as 94 ¾. The ferrules pop. I have collected Landman rods for twelve years. And this is the finest, truly museum-quality rod that I've seen. IMO, it has the original finish with minor alligatoring and original, tapered, custom-fitted form-case covered in black velvet. It features the usual Landman design details- copper-bottomed ferrules, doubled intermediates at all ferrules, rolled and soldered hardware, and a leather-capped form-case with brads gathering the velvet at one end. The form case fits into a black velvet sack that fits into its original brown canvas bag. The canvas bag is badly torn. The rod is very ... moreelegant as evidenced by the black tipped red wraps and the mortised cedar and bamboo butt with mortised reel seat. This sale is for a Antique vintage fishing rod. This rod has 4 flat square like sides and a wooden handle with a rubber ball type end. This rod is in very good condition. The rubber ball type end does have a few cracks in rubber. This rod is 58 inches long overall and has 3 eyes. I have no idea exactly how old this rod is but was told it was from the 1940s. I cannot find name or any writing on this rod.

N o 21875/22 To the Reel Screw: E21952 MADE BY HARDY BROS LTD ALNWICK ENGLAND A Depiction of the HARDY CREST and“By Appointment” The lower section of the rod measures approximately 55 2/ 16” end of butt to tip of brass fitting) Whilst the top section measures approximately 44 10/ 16“tip of top eye to tip of brass fitting) The rod appears to be in pretty good condition. Vintage Japanese fly rod Swan 9 ft original box & equipment
Vintage fly fishing rod made in Japan in original book with equipment in compartments. Label says: Central Fishing Tackle/ Swan/ Made in Japan. There are 5 pieces of rod. All in very good condition, made probably of bamboo. Each piece approximately 3 feet long. Longest combination giving 9 feet long rod. Only area you can notice it was used is cork handle. There is some wear. Little bit of rust and metal handle lining has one fissure. But it's not any loose or anything. I was told is multipurpose tool. You can change handle fitting for spinning, but I'm not specialist. Assembling areas are very stabile. They not falling apart once set. Box size approximately 34x3x2.5 inches. One side has two slide covers with compartments which contain hooks. Several flies, line, scissors and others. Some has Japanese labels. I thinks they all might ... morebe from original set, but I'm not sure. Generally really interesting item. I would it use myself, but I do rock fishing. Thanks for your interest. RUSS PEAK(1912– 2001) Pasadena. California- As an inquisitive 7-year-old, Seymour Singer wandered the two blocks from his Pasadena home into Russ Peak's fly-rod shop 30 years ago. What Singer found was a friend, mentor and avid fly angler and rod builder. I lived at that shop, Singer recalls. He was quite unusual in what he did and he was a perfectionist. We likened his rods to the Stradivarius. said longtime friend Will Trefry of San Marino Peak custom-built rods for the world's best fly anglers. Including Lefty Kreh and David Whitlock. And for numerous world leaders. He made a gold-fitting five-star rod for former President Dwight Eisenhower and was praised for his work by former President Jimmy Carter. Peak operated a small shop at 21 N. Allen for 53 years. It was open only on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings. When it closed ... morebecause of his failing health in 1990. He had enough orders for at least seven years of work. He sold the business in 1993 to Kerry Burkheimer. Who manufactures rods the way Peak did. It was not an economical deal for him. Singer said of the six months it took to fill an order. His rods were perfect, flawless. There was nothing wrong with them. It was a matter of perfection. I thought it was his style. And rarely seen, bamboo rod was made by the Phillipson Rod Co. to be sold in sporting good stores, Dave Cook, etc, in the Denver CO area to satisfy demand the sporting goods stores desires for a Fly/Spin rod. Bill Phillipson designed this rod to be able to be used as a fly rod or light spinning rod in the early 50's when spinning was just starting to take hold and fishermen wanted to be able to use a dry fly or a light spinning lure with the same rod. The rod was made for western fishing and can handle dry fly fishing for trout to smaller bass bugs for bass. The reelseat is in excellent shape, no deformation or age bulging, the ferrule is in excellent shape, tight fitting, all guides and wraps in excellent condition, the rod finish is in excellent shape, clear with no bag rash or finish melts. Cork handle in good shape, a good example of the Bill Phillipson"Hammer Handle" Downlocking reelseat with a short cork fighting butt. This rod comes complete with original tube and bag. The tube is what the rod came in to me, it appears to be a bit long but is in the Philipson style of anodized brown colored tube and flat plastic tube cap, and Phillipson always used what they had on hand. It makes sens as it was too long for a 7' rod tube and a 7'6 or 8' rod tube would have been a bit too long, just like what it is, so it probably was the original tube. This is a 9' split bamboo Fly Fishing Rod from the 1940s in the original case. After doing some research. I have found out that the original Reel and Cloth bag are not included, as well as some Tackle which was originally affixed to the cardboard insert inside the metal box. The rod itself however, is in excellent condition. It has two different top sections of the rod, one of them will need the top eyelet repaired, as it is loose. Phillipson Preferred 8' 3/2 Bamboo Fly Rod
Here is a fine example of a Phillipson Preferred bamboo fly rod. It is impregnated. All sections are full length and straight. The ferrules seat fully and smoothly and produce a satisfying pop when separated. The antique gold tipped black guide wraps are clean and sound. The full wells cork handle presents a slight level of ridging and the original reel seat has been replaced. By a previous owner, with an Orvis Battenkill style seat with what appears to be a walnut spacer. I believe these rods were first introduced by Phillipson in 1952 or 1953. No D.1058 In very good condition for it's age& very much a usable rod. as far as I'm aware, no repairs have been made. Slight crazing to varnish, minimal damage to end of cork handle as seen in photo. Dark red whippings. Clear agate butt eye& red agate tip eye. Round eye guides throughout. Locking ferrule. No ferrule stopper. Original reel nut spanner. Comes in original rod bag which has press studded pouch for spanner. Rod bag has some oil marks on it.
