There is a little scuffing on the male ferrule of the butt section and a couple of rubbing marks on the rod seat. These are barely noticeable and are not visible when the rod is put together and a reel is in place. Factory built on a matte black blank and black gloss whippings with single thread gold highlights. High quality downlocking anodised alloy reel fittings. Two lined stripping rings with single foot others and hayfork tip ring. I read a review that described this as"the best fast action all round salmon fly rod on the market. I think the people at Sage and Loomis might have something to say about that. South Bend 290 Flyrod
Up for auction is this South Bend 290 7 1/2' fly rod. The 290 is thought to have been developed by Wes Jordan before he moved on to Orvis. I feel this is one of the best casting rods of all of the"mass produced" rods. This one is all original. The wraps are all original as is the finish. The varnish has some chips and should be refinished. I think they are visible in the pictures. This rod is ready to fish with no issues. I am so fond of the 290 that I feel that any one that you can find in this good of condition should be restored and fished everyday for years to come. I know more than one person who own very expensive vintage bamboo rods. And leave them in the safe and take their 290 fishing! The rod has both tips. The sock and tube are original. For sale is a tonkin cane rod manufactured by H-I. The rod is in excellent condition and appears to have very little use. The only imperfection that I see is that one of the guides broke through the silk wrap and was glued in place. This is a great fly rod with a sad history. After five years in the USMC when I got out I decided to learn to fly fish. I'd saved up $$. I went into a mid-Willamette Valley{Oregon} sporting goods shop that I didn't know was going out of business. I wanted a good all-around fly rod. my first one. This was in April 1975 and as a general rule back then. Service people were not held in good regard. What happened was the owner sold me stock that was improper for my use. He sold me this wonderful 7 weight rod that cost $75 at the time and a level 6 weight line. He also sold me heavy leaders. Etc. This was a good example of why the Curtis{sic? creek and other basic fly rod books were written. Needless to say it didn't work out. I struggled and finally admitted defeat and bought a bamboo outfit from a good dealer. I was in the stream. ... moreSo to speak. Anyway, my wonderful rod has basically been in the closet since 1976. Neophrene handle, no cuts, splits, or holes. Missing some of the design gold wrap above the handle, easy repair(that's just cosmetic) The manufacturers name is wore off, but this might be from the Brule Rod Company from Brule WI late 70's early 80's. I have for sale my Winston BIIX with a Lamson Velocity1.5 reel and Scientific Anglers Sharkskin line. The Rod, R.L. Winston Boron IIX 9' 4 weight 4 piece fly rod. This rod is in great shape. The only blemish on the entire rod. Is a chip in the cork handle, which can be seen in the photographs. I purchased this rod new and it is a dry fly dream. Plenty of power with that signature Winston feel. The Reel, Water-works Lamson Velocity Hard Alox size 1.5 A great reel in very good shape. There are a few scratches that can be seen in the photos. This reel has Lamson's famous sealed conical drag system and Hard Alox finish. I bought this reel the same day that I bought the rod. It really balances the rod out well. Also included on the reel is a Scientific Anglers Sharkskin fly line. The Line is less than one year old and is in very good shape. ... moreIt is a 4wt. Weight forward Trout taper. 10'8" 7 Weight 4 Piece Batson Switch Rod, IF1087-4M, Grain Window 185-380gr
This auction is for one of my personal rods- a 10'8" 7wt switch rod built on a Batson blank. It's built up as a singlehander more than a switch. With an 8" fore and 3" aft. Still allows for switch casting when needed but balances awesome with a 7-8oz reel and can cast it all day singlehanded. It really likes a WF8/9F for all-purpose work, WF7F for pure overhead, and can throw a 250gr shooting head for miles. Its rated grain window is 185-330 grains- I haven't used it with a Skagit setup but there are many who love them for this. I personally used it to pitch indicator setups. The finish job on this rod is simple on purpose- blue wraps. A little trim, and plain cork. Nothing to erode or weather. I fished it for a couple of seasons and loved it but find that I am doing more trout than steelhead fishing, so best to ... moregive this one a good home. Original red nylon sock is crisp and clean. Fenwick sturdy aluminum tube with screw cap is superior to the plastic tubes but labeled FF70 so it is probably not the original. Fenwick had this to say about the FF705: lightweight easy action rod is the ideal choice for small dry flies. Nymphs, and wets on small streams"

Powell Fly Rod WB86 With Aluminum Case
Up for auction is a Powell fly rod in great condition. It reads Powell WB86 Lines 5-6 and on bottom of the shaft has 740.7. I am missing the cap for the tube. Rod is about 8 1/2'
