Vintage Heddon Pal #8409 Mark III 9' 2pc Fly Rod with Tube and Sock - Nice
This is a early 1960's Heddon Pal#8409 Mark III 9' 2pc fiberglass flyrod. With the early brown fiberglass blank. It is Fas-Tip action and line rating B-GBG GAF, which probably means 8-9wt using today's ratings. The cork grip is in great shape and has a walnut insert at the front by winding check. The real seat is classic early 1960's spring loaded Heddon style, with a gold finish. Winding check, hook keeper and all guides, tip top, and ferrules are the same gold finish. Windings are gold silk base with burgandy details. Heddon label between the grip and stripping guide is intact. Guides are a interesting double wound variation on the snake guide making the rod quite interesting. The comes with the original burgundy cardboard tube(no cap) and a period correct rod sock. I own a Heddon Pal Mark IV with the same blank and reel ... moreseat. And it is quite powerful and suited for anything from trout to steelhead to bass, northerns, and muskies. I use mine for pike of all kinds, and it will throw the big flys and streamers a mile. This rod is fairly unique and would make a great addition to a fiberglass collection. Reel spools and tippet spools, etc. Our home is non-smoking. This item has never been on my back, nor has it ever carried a rod. It has however, ridden on a few automobile trips to fishing spots. Vintage Shakespeare Howald Fiberglass Wonderod. It is a 7' spin/fly combo. 2pc, probably produced in the 1950's. It includes an excellent condition original blue cloth bag with red thread, as well as the correct aluminum tube with the with the original red rubber Wondered caps. The rod is in very good shape with all windings, guides, cork grip, and reel seat in solid condition. There are some scratches on the bottom but of the reel seat, as expected on a used rod of this age. The blue rod sack is in excellent shape as well, with no holes. The rod tube has done it's job well over the years and shows some wear, The rod is an nice example, very similar to the Heddon rods of that era and is ready to fish or add to your collection. But there is an eye missing(see pics) which looked like it got abruptly bent from the winging. Cork and Black Walnut Wood Handle in good condition.
