I am selling a Thomas& Thomas"Vagabond" rod that I really like. But rarely have had an opportunity to fish. When I bought it, I had great ambitions for fishing in far-away exotic places, but it looks like those dreams are not going to come to pass. I have fished this rod, however, and I can say that despite the number of ferrules, the rod flexes deep and has what I would call a moderate action. I guess this is what I should have expected from Thomas& Thomas, but it is still a source of some amazement to me. Thomas& Thomas no longer offers this rod. But when it did it said this about it in the marketing literature: A rod you can take anywhere, the Vagabond is designed in multiple 15" sections that slip easily into a standard briefcase or overnight bag. Yet, they handle with the ease and smoothness of a 2-piece rod. ... moreFeatures include an uplocking reel seat with hardwood insert and Western grip. I would also note that it has alignment marks, which I think are useful for a rod with this many sections. It is made from a black polished blank with black wraps, and is beautifully finished. I would characterize it as"like new" but for a noticeable scratch on the second section. I have included a close-up of the scratch. It does not affect the performance of the rod. Classic 7' Bamboo Fly Rod by Charles Grove, Maker 2/2 With Bag And Aluminum Tube
I have not been able to find out anything about Charles Grove. The maker. This 7 foot, 2 piece, 2 tip rod is beautifully designed and executed. The cork cigar grip tapers to a cork reel seat with two sliding rings. The cork has no chips or gouges. Both tip sections are 3/4" longer than the butt section, looks like the rod may have been built that way. All sections are essentially straight. The ferrules are"popping" tight. The female ferrule on the butt has a soldered ring welt. The stripper guide has an artificial agate liner. The snake guides are pristine, with transparent wraps. The rod is designed to cast a 4 weight line. I have not put a line on it but in flexing it feels like a good dry fly rod. This rod is in excellent condition. It comes with a cloth bag in a good quality aluminum tube.

Ferrules, guides and wraps are like new, cork has a tiny bit of loss from being moved around in the tube over the years but is not dry rot. Reel seat is like new with a tiny bit of anodizing loss also from being in the tube. The Garcia logo is on the butt. One guide on the butt section, black anodized single lock down reel seat, and 4 guides on the tip. The cardboard tube it came in is worn and there is not top. A great rod to collect or fish. Just an amazing near mint 4 weight Model 237- L4 rod in all respects. Mario rods always amaze me in it overall balance and symmetry in building his fine works of art. This rod is from the days of collaboration with Scott Rod Co. His six-sided rods are generally of the progressive tapers style and all hollow built. Made in the manner reminiscent of the bridge construction with the percentage of the wood removed from the apex of every strip. The blank then looses about a third of its weight. This makes for a very light rod smooth medium fast dry fly rod. Just a beautiful rod with medium straw colored blank and translucent gold silk wraps.
