Vintage Sabre 2 Piece Ultralight Spinning Fishing Rod 5.5 ft 2-8 lb Class 2 Rods
You're bidding on two vintage Sabre ultralight fiberglass freshwater fishing rods. These are the original California Tackle Company products. Both are 2 piece. 5.5 foot, 2-8 pound class. One is a custom made rod on a Sabre blank made by"The River Rat" of Arizona. Both rods are in excellent shape, the wrapping is still intact with no unwinding or deterioration of the epoxy. Guides are straight with no rusting. The tip of one rod appears to have had the guide re-epoxied, but no damage to the blank. The hypolon is still soft after 30 years. One of the reel seats is marked"Varmac" the other is unmarked. Nice high quality rods which are still perfectly fishable or collectable. American Sabre Company was a well-intentioned re-start of the California Tackle Company in Carson California which manufactured the Sabre brand rods and ultimately went bankrupt 23 years ago. American Sabre owners Gordon Hatch. Jerome"Skip" Bown, and Jim(cannot remember last name) purchased certain assets from California Tackle Company including all the rod manufacturing patterns and technology. The restarted company, called America Sabre, manufactured a few hundred rods of various patterns, but never went to market with them. Penn ultimately bought the Sabre name and kept the brand alive. For sale is one of these American Sabre rods made in 1991 from the original Sabre patterns. It is a 7' SeaLite rod for 20-50# test line. Has blue foam grips and blue/white factory wrapping.
