JOHN S. COOK& CO. BANKERS. CHECK issued in Rhyolite. Nevada in 1906. 2 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches, cleanly cut-cancelled, tiny spindle hole, otherwise nice condition. Fabulous Nevada mining item written to purchase a sack of grain in a desert mining camp. Rhyolite was a very short-lived Nevada mining town located in the Bullfrog Hills in Nye County on the eastern edge of Death Valley. This check cleared through the Greenwater Banking Company in Greenwater, California. Greenwater was another temporary mining town on the edge of Death Valley, now a ghost town located within the boundaries of Death Vally National Park.
