Vintage Harnell 7 FT 11 in saltwater rod made in USA striped bass
up for bid is vintage Harnell saltwater rod.This rod is 7 foot 11 inch long. In good shape and has a vintage varmac reel seat the fore grip shows some wear. and wood handle and the guides are a little pitted from age and the wrapping is faded but they are tight still. Measures 7' long w/6 excellent original Aftco roller guides& tip.The guides are all straight and securely attached in place with tight factory wraps.Varmac reel seat is excellent w/near perfect chrome.The white hard rubber foregrip is in very good condition and tight.Wood butt is in good condition also w/factory cap,but does have a very slight curve.The rod itself does have some minor nicks/scratches from use,but overall is in very respectable/presentable& fishable condition for it's age.No returns or international shipping

They were very popular on both coasts and became somewhat dominant as a premium rod amongst the west coast anglers that fished the"party" boats for the numerous species in these waters. a no reserve auction from a New London County estate is an original Harnell ten foot long rod in super clean condition less stain marks on the lower wrapping as seen in photos. this rod does include its original off white canvas sock sleeve. this rod has remained in a heated basement shelf since 1961 th is rod does come in 2 pc and the shipping size is eight feet long five inches wide and one inch height. this will be packed and shipped by the UPS packing store and will be fully insured. i have been quoted for the tube. Packing material, insurance and freight charges $110 to California, $90 to Miami. And $75 to Jersey. should the charges be less than you paid i will refund the difference. I do not profit on shipping. Harnell was formed in 1946 by John Harrington. The name Harnell was created by combining the Har in Harrington and nell from ... morethe last name of Harrington's good friend and partner. Lavern Rennells. Harrington was born in 1901 on the Choctaw Nation Indian Reservation in Oklahoma. His family migrated west and by 1921 he was working resurfacing roads for the State of California Highway Department. This led him to work on the Boulder Dam project and by 1940 he had moved to Santa Monica. California, and joined Douglas Aircraft as a tool man. Harrington was transferred by Douglas to Chicago during WW II to work on the setup of O'Hare Field. He built his first casting rod in 1945 using square weave fiberglass for airplanes and casting glue. It was not an overly good rod given the fact that the fiberglass and resins were not designed for that use, but it gave him a start in fiberglass rod making. Following the war, her returned to Santa Monica with Douglas, but soon left to start Harnell. By the middle of 1945, he had perfected making commercial fiberglass tubular rod blanks by 1946. Harrington's first shop was opened in Santa Monica in a building above MRM Enamelers. He used their oven at night to cure his rods with his designs. The last two guides on this rod have been neatly removed and need to be replaced. The ferrule wrap is frayed. The blank has scratches and scuffs but is original full length with no damage or repairs. Number 830, made in Venice, California. This two piece rod has typical wear for the vintage. There are no cracks and the cork handle is in good condition. There is some tape wrapped around some of the windings(see photos) I think it was probably put on to tidy up some loose thread. All of the eyes are on and appear original, none of them are loose. The rubber on the end of the handle is weathered. The two pieces fit together snuggly. Harnell 'Ultimate' 8007 FAF,2A Fly Fishing Rod 9'
This is a Harnell'Ultimate" Multiple Step Taper Tubular Fishing rod. The label states a genuine Harnell made in Venice CA. The number is 8007 another notation is FAF.2A This rod is in great condition. VERY CLEAN and appears to have had VERY little use. It measure about an inch longer than 9 feet. It comes in original tube. There is a cloth bag.not sure if it is the original because it does not fold over at the top of the rod.

1970s Gadabout Gaddis No. 5311 – The Flying Fisherman – Spinning Rod by Harnell
You are bidding on a vintage Gadabout Gaddis No. 5311– The Flying Fisherman– Spinning Rod by Harnell. This is a 2 piece fiberglass rod that is 7’ in length. I think this rod was made in the late 1960s or early 70s after Harne ll had been purchased by Horrock-Ibbotson. The brand Gadabout Gaddis refers to a well known outdoor sports writer of that era. There is some rash on the rod but it is overall in good to very good condition. All 6 line guides are original as are their wrappings. The cork handle and fore grip are stained from use but are intact and solid. The reel seat shows some minor wear but is complete with a double locking nut. The ferrule is still tight and the hook guide is still in place. A nice example of these well made old rods from the mid 1900s.
