Used in the 1930's to 1950's in Eagle River Wisc. on Little St Germain Lake. Placed in a tackle box since 1956. Condition: Good to great. It does have paint missing on left and right sides. On top in middle of glass eyes. In back in indentations where 2 large hooks would spring back into place. Small grooves on top underneath antenna. It is cool to see where the red was painted as some spills into the bottom of the lure. That gives you the sense of how this was made almost 80+ years ago. This is the same Dr. Walker that is noted to be the first white man, on record, in this area, which would become Johnson Co. Mr. Walker, was known to be an able, ingenious and observing engineer as well as a Physician. It was thru Cumberland Gap that he and his party entered Kentucky. He traveled in to the Big Sandy Area and was there from June 6 to June 19, 1750. ANTIQUE BRICK FROM THE DUCK CREEK BRICK COMPANY DUCK CREEK.WISCONSIN VERY GOOD Accession Number: 7.1984.10 Published Date: 11/29/2006"Workers at an unidentified brickyard pose for the camera. Ca. 1900. After a fire in 1853 that gutted a large portion of Green Bay's downtown, and later, the 1871 Peshtigo fire that killed approximately 2000 people, the use of brick and stone in building became more common. Stone was locally available from"the Ledge" as well as from fields, Brick, however, was easier to obtain and useful for construction because much of the region had an underlay of suitable clay for bricks. Early manufacturing required the bricks to be made by hand. Fresh clay was thrown into a hole, soaked in water, and then shoveled into a pugmill where it was mixed with more water until it became smooth. As the clay was ... moremixed, it was also forced to the bottom of the pugmill and slowly squeezed through a small hole in the bottom of the box. It was then rolled in sand and pressed into a wooden mold. When the mold was filled with four to eight bricks it was emptied onto a board where the clay bricks air-dried for several weeks. Once dry thousands of bricks were placed in wood kilns where they were fired for more than a week. When the steam engine began to be used for brick making near the turn of the century, the availability of more sophisticated machinery allowed increased production. Unfortunately, as wood became less readily available, many of the smaller brickyards closed. Increased use of concrete block also provided competition for the brick industry in the 1920s. There is normal wear and utensil marks. They are an off white(not the bright white the pictures make them seem) with a maroon trim. This is Cash Ledger Number 1 from the Beaver Land and Irrigation Company(see pictures) This auction not only includes the Cash Ledger but also the original Certificate of Incorporation for the Beaver Land and Irrigation Company dated 31 May 1907. The CoI is signed by then Secretary of State(of Colorado) Timothy O'Connor. It was signed in Denver. Colorado at 2:45. If you are looking at this. Then you know the connection between this company and Spencer Penrose. If you didn't, well, now you do. A bit of background: Spencer Penrose made a lot of money in Cripple Creek gold mining operations. By the 1900's. His interests took him to the Beaver Creek area down south and he decided that water in that area was his new gold. He organized the“Beaver Land and Irrigation ... moreCompany” and began buying water rights along Beaver Creek. Projects of the company included the Schaeffer Dam and Lake McNeil(west of present-day Hwy 115) You can check out the Penrose Chamber of Commerce web site for some great history of this company. This ledger is about 1.5" thick and nearly every page has something written on it. There are some very cool entries as well; for example. You will find out that the company purchased an automobile in June, 1907. You will find the entry for the payment of the Articles of Incorporation to the Secretary of State for the Company as well as the Fremont townsite($4.50) You will also find that Henry M. Blackmer(of Cripple Creek and the Teapot Dome Scandal fame) had an expense account with the company and that the company frequently used the Florence and Cripple Creek Railway for freight shipments. There is even reference of a Susie M. Blackmer being on the payroll for the BL&I Company. A wonderful piece of history that will make a great addition to a collection. VINTAGE CREEK CHUB BAIT COMPANY WOODEN LURE 3 INCH PIKIE
Here is a couple of terrific vintage wooden lures. One is a Creek Chub Bait Company 3 inch pikie known as the injured minnow and the other is an unknown manufacturer but also a very nice wooden Pike lure. I do not have the origanal boxes or packaging for either lure but I do have the instruction paper that came with the Chub Creek Bait Pikie and the lures in themselves are very nice for any collector. Both lures are used and the C. C. B. lure has seen some strikes and has some small paint chips that add to the patina of the piece. VINTAGE CREEK CHUB BAIT COMPANY CASTING PLUG MARKED C.C.B. CO. 5/8 This auction is for a CREEK CHUB BAIT COMPANY 5/8 oz casting plug that is marked C.C.B.CO. 5/8 and is in good used condition. It measures 3 ¼ inches long and 1 inch wide at the bottom. The chrome tip is shiny. The paint is not chipped but there are age lines and small spots that can be seen in the photos.
