Polly Rosborough was a legend in the fly fishing community. He originated many patterns and was regarded as a master fly tyer. Receiving many national awards from FFF and others. Living in Chiloqiun, Oregon, he fished the Williamson, Wood, McKenzie, Rogue and many other western rivers. His first book, Tying and Fishing the Fuzzy Nymphs" published in 1965, won national acclaim. He freely dispensed his knowledge to anyone willing to learn. As a member of Rogue Fly Fishers, he attended when he could, and would always bring a prize. This collection of his personally tied flies was won in a raffle in April, 1984 when he was 82 years old. He tied until 1993, when he was banished to assisted living. I won these flies, and have stored them securely in a nonsmoking home ever since. Hand Made and Tied GE Vintage Folk Art Fly Minnow - from Dave Hoover Collection
This large fly has nice eye appeal and I'm sure was crafted to represent a swimming minnow. I picked this up at an NFLCC National tackle show 2-3 years ago from well known tackle collector and dealer Dave Hoover. Entirely made and tied by hand. This minnow was inspired perhaps by the famed lures made by Lewis Rhead and Kellman. I has good age and a very mellow patina. Look close in my pics and you'll see that the minnow exterior body material is crinkled"foil" which has great affect as scales and adds bright. Fish attracting flash. Through time, this varnish has yellowed to very neat visual affect today. I feel the head is built up using hand wrapped line, then painted and varnished. Of note, I like that the maker used his fly tying technique to suggest a"mouth" at the bottom of the head- an extra step of creativity. ... moreThe big glass eyes were possibly painted red at one time, which adds a lot of interest around their edges, and causes the eyes when the lure is displayed, to appear bloodshot or orangish- neat! The fly itself is 2-3/4" with feathered tail measuring 3-1/2, and out to out of hook being just under 3-1/2" a nice old, largish, folk art fly/ lure to add to your collection at I'm sure is WAY below what an authentic Rhead or Kellman piece will set you back. Vintage Leather Snelled Fly Wallet measures 4 1/4 x 6 3/4" Has 2 bakelite flaps inside which have springs and plates for attaching snelled flies or snelled hooks. and a compartment on front inside. There are three soft wool flaps for flies. There is an inside front compartment for leaders. Etc. Leather is fine, not dry and no cracking. There is wear on all outer curves. It is as found and should be cleaned with a leather cleaner. There are 24 vintage hand tied dry& wet flies and snelled dry flies. There are 9 vintage hooks with braided coated nylon. Three very early leather fly wallets and store card with some original flies. Took a rough count on the flies. There are about 85 or more. Left wallet measures 3 x 6" closed. No cracks or damage to leather. But surfaces are dirty. One snap on left side won't close, probably needs cleaning. Some wear on inside sheeps wool lining and is dirty and discolored. Most of the flies in this wallet are deteriorated. Wallet in upper center measures 3 1/2 x 6" closed. Two inside vinyl pockets. Two cloth flaps. Surfaces are worn. Snap works. Some snelled and dry flies. Some are deteriorated. Lower center wallet measures 3 x 6 1/2" closed. Wear on surfaces and edges Snap works. 4 inside cloth flaps. Cloth is tinted. Vintage 3/0 SCOTT SPECIAL Atlantic salmon fly Created& Tied by Charles DeFeo(1891-1978) For auction is the Atlantic salmon fly SCOTT SPECIAL. Created and tied by Charles DeFeo on a 3/0 hook, circa 1947. This fly is historically important because it represents the first time that fluorescent dyes were used in fly tying. Charlie popularized the technique of dying golden pheasant crests. First an enhanced yellow and fluorescent yellow-orange, and then many shades of blue, green and even chartreuse. In the 1930s and 1940s, Charlie's life-long friend M.O. Porter was involved with supplying rubber and other components for the Manhattan Project. Knowing Charlie was fascinated by iridescence and translucency, MO using his political connections with the employees at the Los Alamos testing facility and was able to secure a number of experimental ... moredyes. Starting with golden pheasant feathers, Charlie produced some of the most beautiful green, blue and fluorescent orange crests ever seen. He was the first to dye floss a yellowish green and incorporate this color into his dressings- creating the first chartreuse-butt hairwing Atlantic salmon flies. The fluorescent yellowish-green(chartreuse) and orange dyes that Charlie used were originally intended for(secret) signaling flares" but enabled DeFeo to impart any color to virtually any material. SCOTT SPECIAL was published on page 93(fly#22) of Forgotten Flies(1999) The fly is presented in a beautiful gold finish wood frame. Vintage Trout Net. Canvas& Screen Creel, Hand Tied Fly Assortment- Very Nice Lot. The trout net is made by ED. Cummings– Fishing Tackle Flint. Mich. and is in very nice condition. The wood handle and tear drop basket appears to be chestnut and birch. The net is whole with some stiffness and I can-not find any breaks and is 15” or more deep. The wood has normal dings and scratches and is in very good condition and has the original label. The length is 19-3/4” not including the metal belt clip and 8-3/4” at widest point. The canvas and screen creel is in good condition but could use a cleaning. Part of the leather strap is off but the piece is there. The creel has a zippered storage compartment and the zipper works good. I can-not find any holes or tears. The stitching is good and the shoulder strap is intact. The only makers marks I find ... moreis 44 stamped on the leather. I count 84 flies that appear to be hand tied and in good condition. If the count is of by a couple. Please no complaints. For auction is a 40 compartment aluminum fly box from Cabela's which is full of hand tied dry and wet hackle flies. The flies are mostly tied on#14 or#16 hooks. I took detailed pictures of the fly box and also a nice close up of some of the dry flies. I personally counted the flies. As well as personally operated each and everyone of the individual doors several times prior to this listing. This box is in PERFECT working order! The individual doors are opened and shut by gently depressing on its individual lever. When you have selected the fly you want behind the individual window you have opened, you gently shut the door and the lever holds it shut. The box is great for storing large quantities of dry/wet flies. It measures 7" x 3 1/2" and is slightly over 1 1/2" thick. A GRAY GHOST STREAMER FLY tied by Jim Warner mounted on a Vintage Card
You are bidding on a new GRAY GHOST.Streamer fly tied on an old 10X size 4 Rangeley Streamer loop eye hook. to the exact specifications of Mrs Stevens's famous pattern. Many of the colors have been matched as wekk as possible to the original. In my lifetime of tying flies commercially for stores. Individuals and the jobber trade, I did more gray ghosts than any other single pattern. The orange body seemed to be standard, although I believe that a more yellowish-orange appeared in many of her flies. The wing color also seemed to be a more browinush gray, yet most of my commercial product had a standard gray. In this offering I have given the Gray Ghost a wing of the gray I think she used. Years ago I remember a conversation with George Fletcher of Rangely, Maine, who I did some feather business with, as well as, Mrs Stevens. He told me ... morethat if her order was not the right color, she would send it back. Well. This is one of my all-time favorites. It os a beautiful pattern that caught the fishermen's eye as well as the fish. This may very well be my last Gray Ghost. At 85. Now I seem to have less time to do all the tying I want to do. Antique Hand Tied Fly Collection with Peerless Fly Box
Antique Peerless fly box with collection of hand tied flies from the late 40s-50s. On the box it said PEERLESS A.A.Co. Newark. N.J. I acquired this box and collection from an estate sale in 1980. I bought a lot of stuff from this widow. She explained that her husband always was an avid sportsman and mainly fished. He was a very successful business man and had some very nice stuff, including a Hardy Princess Fly Reel new in the box that her parents bought for him in England in 1952. I still use the reel. There are many had tied flies in the box. I tried to take the pictures so you can estimate whats in there. The plastic film that covers each side is clear and easy to see in the compartments. The spring loaded covers work perfect. I also bought boxes and boxes of fly tying material that eventually had to be thrown away so he was a very talented ... morefly tyer. Vintage REDUCED LIME JOCK SCOTT created & tied by Charles DeFeo salmon fly
Vintage 4/0 REDUCED JOCK SCOTT(aka LIME SCOTT) salmon fly Created& Tied by Charles DeFeo(1891-1978) For auction is a REDUCED JOCK SCOTT Atlantic salmon fly tied with fluorescent lime silk(aka chartreuse) and later called the LIME SCOTT. Created and tied by Charles DeFeo on a 4/0 hook circa 1947. This fly is historically important because it represents one of the first times that fluorescent dyes were used in fly tying. Charlie popularized the technique of dying golden pheasant crests. First an enhanced yellow and fluorescent yellow-orange, and then many shades of blue, green and even chartreuse. In the 1930s and 1940s, Charlie's life-long friend M.O. Porter supplied rubber and other components for the Manhattan Project. Knowing Charlie was fascinated by iridescence and translucency, MO using his political connections with the employees ... moreat the Los Alamos testing facility was able to secure a number of experimental dyes. Starting with golden pheasant feathers, Charlie produced some of the most beautiful green, blue and fluorescent orange crests ever seen. He was the first to dye floss a yellowish green and incorporate this color into his dressings- creating the first chartreuse-butt hairwing Atlantic salmon flies. The fluorescent yellowish-green(chartreuse) and orange dyes that Charlie used were originally intended for(secret) signaling flares" but enabled DeFeo to impart any color to virtually any material. LIME SCOTT was published on page 94(fly#27) of Forgotten Flies(1999) The fly is a reduced Jock Scott. Tied with fluorescent lime(later called chartreuse) silk, Indian Crow and Chatterer, and is presented in a beautiful gold finish wood frame. The fly is from my personal collection and I will supply a letter of authenticity.

Fenwick FR1089 HMG 9' 9 weight Fly Rod Blank, tied as a Michigan-style steelhead/salmon spinning rod(long fore-grip and short, rear grip) It is used, but in great condition. Blank is brown, with goldenrod primary thread wraps and light blue trim. Total of 9 Fuji hardloy guides plus tip with Fuji reel seat and hook keeper. Note: This rod blank was purchased from Cabelas, but no decal/badge was shipped with the rod.
