Vintage EARLY NAMED HARDY LURE This is an EARLY HARDY LURE out of a very old fishing box. The metal box in the fourth picture) The box has three removable trays with a variety of fishing tackle in them. The Jarvis's Vesuvian matches. Which were the matches used in the late 1800's were in the fishing box too. The fishing box and match box in the fourth picture are not for sale, but are representative of the age of the fishing tackle. The Lure has HARDY ENGLAND on one fin and an R on the other fin. The original Wire Trace with it's original Treble Hook. Which has no rust on it at all. Has been strapped to the body with a fine piece of wire. It has it's original Swivel attached at the front. The Lure itself is 1 3/4 inches( 4 1/2 cms) in length. It is just as it came out of the fishing box. I will combine postage.

Vintage and very rare Hardy 3.5" 1890-93 new mother of Pearl Phantom lure
Vintage and extremely rare Hardy 1890 to 1893 made of the new Pearl Phantom manufactured from mother of pearl in a fish shape and painted in trout colours. It is the larger 3.5" version. Never fished and original as it can be after 122 years. Most of these were broken when a fish struck because of the fragile nature of the material. The original patent was granted to Mr. Townsend and after Hardy ceased taking them in 1893 he sold them to Cummins and Fosters. See Chris Sanford's book"The best of British baits" page 169 You will have to search a long time to find another. Even in poor condition,so if you collect Hardy lures this is your chance. The reference material is Graham Turner's first Fishing Tackle. A collectors guide, page 235 under Hardy Bros lures. He dates these as 1890 to 1893 but in his latest book this ... moreis revised to 1891 to 1892. So take your pick produced for 2 or 3 years clearly made the catalogue as has a Hardy number of 477 and a half. It also appears in Graham Turner's latest tombe on the same subject page 605. There is no buy it now price if you want it you will have to bid and the start price is realistic and a deterrent to chancers. The last one I seen many years ago was £400 which was smaller.
